Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rio Yaj (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Daniel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rio Yaj is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rio Yaj!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Thomas Daniel!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Daniel walks into a stiff left hand from Yaj.
Yaj throws a jab but it's blocked by Daniel.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Yaj.
Yaj closes the distance and clinches up with Daniel, looking for a takedown. Yaj pushes Daniel against the cage but Daniel circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Yaj misses with a wild body shot.
Jab by Yaj.
Daniel throws a head kick but Yaj moves out of range.
Daniel steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Yaj.
Daniel replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Yaj blocks it well.
Daniel uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Daniel stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rio Yaj. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Yaj lands with an uppercut that bounces Daniel off the cage and back into range.
Yaj lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Yaj on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Daniel. Daniel obviously looking to wear him down.

Daniel jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Yaj jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Yaj looks to throw the jab but Daniel is out of range.
Daniel is looking for the big counter here.
Daniel swings for the body but Yaj moves out of range.
Yaj attempts a counter takedown but Daniel avoids it well and moves away.
Yaj fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Daniel avoids it really well and circles away.

Daniel walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Yaj half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Yaj shoots in for a double leg but Daniel sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Good leg kick by Daniel there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Yaj checks a leg kick.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Yaj is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Yaj misses with a looping right.
Daniel swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Daniel pushes Yaj away with a front kick.
Daniel looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

and Yaj counters with a takedown into side control.
Yaj is working Daniel over with some ground and pound from side control.
Yaj throws a strike aimed at the side of Daniel's head but Daniel avoids it well.

Yaj scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Daniel to see if he's OK.
Yaj misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Daniel tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Yaj wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Daniel takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Sloppy strikes there by Yaj.
Daniel is not content to let Yaj control the position.

Yaj misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Yaj creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Daniel sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Daniel tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Yaj wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rio Yaj dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Daniel misses with a looping left.
Yaj takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Daniel misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Daniel pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Daniel stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Daniel wants it to stay on the feet.
A telegraphed right hand from Daniel misses the target.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Daniel enables Yaj to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Daniel manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Daniel controls Yaj momentarily but Yaj frees himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Daniel wants to sweep here but Yaj controlling him for the moment.

Yaj throws a strike but Daniel avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Yaj throws an elbow that misses. Daniel uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Yaj's guard. Nice move by Daniel!

Yaj has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Yaj is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Yaj is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Daniel doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Yaj.
Daniel moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Daniel throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Daniel tries for a takedown but Yaj sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Yaj lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Yaj moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


Daniel is rocked!
Crack! Yaj connects with the perfect overhand right and Daniel falls face first to the canvas. Timbeeeeeeeer! Beautiful knockout for Yaj!

During a confident post fight interview, Rio Yaj thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
