Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Irwin Farmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jewel Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Irwin Farmer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jewel Cote!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Cote.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Farmer wants to get back to his feet.
Farmer can't do much from the bottom here.
Farmer wants to get back to his feet but Cote is dominant here and he's now got Farmer's back!
Farmer is keeping busy.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Farmer is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Cote trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

Cote has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Farmer has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Farmer is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Cote is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Farmer is covering up but some of the strikes from Cote are getting through and doing damage.
Cote looking to soften up his opponent with punches.
Farmer trying to get back to his feet but Cote is in full control for now.

Farmer is trying escape back to his feet. He turns into his opponent's guard and eventually finds his way back to his feet.

Cote changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Farmer tries to avoid it but Cote manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Farmer to the ground. Farmer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Farmer seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Farmer closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Farmer lands in his opponent's guard.
Farmer trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Cote is trying to control the position but Farmer postures up.
Farmer trying to control the position from guard on top but Cote is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Farmer not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Farmer is fighting to break Cote's control of his arms but Cote is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Farmer throws a big elbow that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cote keeping moving, preventing Farmer from controlling successfully.
Farmer controls from within his opponent's guard.
Farmer really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Farmer postures up in Cote's guard and throws a big left but Cote blocks it.
Farmer is in close to Cote's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Cote should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Cote avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Farmer's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Farmer is looking to stand up but Cote won't let him.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cote changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Farmer tries to avoid it but Cote manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Farmer to the ground. Farmer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Farmer fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Cote to the ground. Farmer is now in Cote's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Irwin Farmer will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Farmer lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Cote closes the distance and clinches.

Farmer breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Farmer gets the takedown into side control.
A lull in the action here as Farmer stalls from top position.

Farmer swings around for an armbar but Cote sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Farmer's guard.
Farmer wants to stand but Cote is controlling the position.
Farmer trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Cote drops back looking for a leg! Farmer is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Farmer manages to kick Cote off! Cote jumps back into Farmer's guard.
Cote looking to sit in guard and control but Farmer gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cote controls Farmer momentarily but Farmer frees himself.
Farmer wanted to stand there but Cote had control of the position.

Cote is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Cote avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Farmer with a flurry of punches that miss.
Irwin Farmer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Farmer wants to control from the top but Cote keeps moving.
Farmer is stalling in the full guard.
Farmer will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Cote gets caught flat footed, as Farmer shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Farmer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Farmer gets to his feet. Cote looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Cote moves into range and clinches up with Farmer.

Farmer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Cote closes the distance and clinches up with Farmer, looking for a takedown. Cote pushes Farmer against the cage but Farmer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Farmer shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Farmer showed some decent athleticism there.

Cote manages to escape and get back to his feet!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Farmer tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Cote manages to circle out of the way.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Cote is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Farmer is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cote knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

You can see the frustration on Cote's face as Farmer controls the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Jewel Cote has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Farmer, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
