PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bill Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gary Sandusky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Bill Lee has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bill Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gary Sandusky!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Alec Ball and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Sandusky counters with a nice double leg into side control. Lee won't be happy with that.
Jeez, both these guys look absolutely knackered already, that's not a good sign!
Lee tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sandusky wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Sandusky tries to advance to mount but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lee tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sandusky wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Sandusky decides to stand back up. Sandusky steps back and let's Lee get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lee shoots in for a takedown but Sandusky shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Lee gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Lee trying to keep a closed guard but Sandusky is proving a slippery customer.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sandusky won't allow Lee to get back to his feet.
My spies in Cozad MMA Montreal inform me that Sandusky has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Sandusky stands up and waves to Lee to follow him.
Sandusky fails with a takedown attempt.
It looked like Lee was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Lee pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Sandusky clinches with his opponent.
Lee tries to circle away but Sandusky has him pinned against the cage.

Sandusky ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sandusky no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sandusky wants to stand but Lee is controlling the position.
Lee forces his way into half guard.
Sandusky is looking to improve his position.

Lee is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sandusky sees it coming and defends easily.

Sandusky makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lee fails with a takedown attempt.
Sandusky looks for the body kick but Lee saw that one coming.

Sandusky clinches up with Lee and pushes him back against the cage.
A shot in the inside from Lee.
Lee tries to break the clinch but Sandusky is controlling the position.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Lee looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Sandusky changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Lee fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Lee moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sandusky fails with the takedown
and Lee counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Bill Lee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gary Sandusky.
Lee will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Lee tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sandusky swivels and escapes.
Sandusky throws a body punch but Lee moves out of range.
A quick step to the side and Lee tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nice sprawl there from Lee as Sandusky shoots in.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lee lands a two punch combo.
Lee tries to clinch

and Sandusky counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sandusky drops an elbow to the side of Lee's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gary Sandusky dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Sandusky keeps the fight on the outside.
Nice defenses there by Lee.
Lee tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Sandusky counters with a left and a right that stings Lee.
The fight stays on the outside here - Lee looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Lee is looking to clinch but Sandusky is avoiding it.
Lee wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Lee misses with an attempted mid kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lee fails with the takedown.
Lee rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Sandusky moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lee moves to clinch but Sandusky breaks away
and Sandusky counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Sandusky feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Lee looking for a sweep. Not yet Lee, not yet.
Sandusky slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Lee throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Sandusky escapes and throws Lee's legs to the side, diving into side control!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Sandusky is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Lee looks calm but he's in trouble here. Sandusky gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Lee is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Sandusky lets go of the hold and Lee can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Gary Sandusky!
