PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank The Tank (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alistair Overeem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Frank The Tank looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank The Tank!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alistair Overeem!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Nard Betker and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Overeem enables The Tank to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Overeem manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Overeem has control of The Tank's left arm, preventing The Tank from doing any damage.
Overeem wants to sweep here but The Tank controlling him for the moment.
Overeem keeping moving, preventing The Tank from controlling successfully.

Overeem manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. The Tank manages to get himself to full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Overeem has hold of The Tank's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and The Tank manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Overeem unloads with some shots from mount but The Tank bucks and avoids them well.
The Tank is in all sorts of trouble here.

Overeem controlling the pace for now.
The Tank tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Overeem throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Overeem scoring with strikes but The Tank is staying in there.
The Tank wants to hold on but Overeem pushes him away.
The Tank tries to reverse the position but Overeem maintains control.
Overeem throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for The Tank because Overeem loaded up on that one.
The Tank manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Overeem is trying to control the action in half guard but The Tank is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Overeem seems to be working for a kimura but The Tank defends the submission attempt.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Overeem in particular looking to stall.
The Tank is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Overeem's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Overeem's back!

The Tank turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and The Tank manages to end up in side control.
Overeem bucks up and tries to throw The Tank off but instead The Tank has got his back!
The Tank is not going to allow Overeem to sit and survive in this position.

Frank The Tank has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alistair Overeem.
The Tank tries to clinch but Overeem is having none of it.

The Tank closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Overeem goes for a takedown attempt but The Tank pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

The Tank lands a decent elbow from side control.

You can see the frustration on Overeem's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The Tank wants to lay and pray for a moment but Overeem keeps working.
Overeem tries to buck The Tank off but The Tank is having none of it.
The Tank connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Overeem some visible discomfort.

The Tank goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Overeem rolls with the submission and now he's on top in The Tank's guard! Nice work there by Overeem!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Frank The Tank will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Overeem throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around The Tank's waist but The Tank gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Overeem off to one side.
The Tank shoots for a takedown but Overeem saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
The Tank shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Overeem defends it nicely.
Frank The Tank is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Overeem throws a right and a left that The Tank avoids nicely.
Overeem changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. The Tank tries to avoid it but Overeem manages to keep hold of a leg and drag The Tank to the ground. The Tank escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
No luck for The Tank with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank The Tank. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The Tank closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Overeem bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Overeem stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. The Tank swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The Tank looking for a sweep. Not yet The Tank, not yet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Overeem shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. The Tank defends it nicely.
The Tank closes the distance and clinches up with Overeem, looking for a takedown. The Tank pushes Overeem against the cage but Overeem circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
The Tank tries to close the distance and clinch but Overeem swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Overeem tries to clinch but The Tank moves out of range.
Overeem shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says The Tank as he avoids it easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The Tank looks for a takedown but Overeem sprawls well.
Overeem fails with the takedown.
Overeem tries for a takedown but The Tank sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

The Tank shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than The Tank was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Check out the look on The Tank's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Overeem on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Frank The Tank.
I think The Tank has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
