PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Recruit Two (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Recruit Five (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Recruit Two!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Recruit Five!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Paul Tew and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Two tries to clinch but Five is having none of it.
Five throws a nice looking combination but Two bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Two shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Five pinned against the cage. Five gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Two stuffs the takedown attempt from Five. Five gets slowly back to his feet.
Two is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Five.
Crunch! Two slams his shin into Five's torso.
Two fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Two manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Five on his heels. He'll look to pass Five's guard now, I'm sure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Two not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Five working for a triangle but Two defends it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Two trying to control but Five is working from the bottom.
Five is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Two has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Five is proving hard to escape from.
Two pushing down on Five's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Five missing with punches from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Five is looking to escape.
Five is looking to improve his position.
Five keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Five wants to improve his position but Two is controlling well.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Two is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Two wants to control but Five is keeping him busy.
Two not doing much here.
Five tries to roll over but Two keeps him under control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Five is looking to control Two's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Five avoid being mounted?

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Two tries to clinch up but Five circles away and keeps his distance.
Two sets himself, and Five steps forward looking for the clinch! Two avoids it this time.
Five will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Five leaves Two with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Five is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Two with a body shot.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Recruit Two. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Two clinches.

Five escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Two closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Two lands in his opponent's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Two got a little sloppy there for a moment and Five has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Two has managed to get both his arms back between Five's legs - danger averted.
Five working a defensive guard here.

Two is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Five keeping full guard, as Two tries to pass.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Five has a closed guard, preventing Two from standing up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Recruit Two dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Two is looking to clinch but Five is avoiding it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Two.
Five tries to close the distance and clinch up but Two swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Two shoots in for a double leg but Five sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Nice sprawl there from Two as Five shoots in.
Five connects with a body shot.
Good standup being displayed there by Five as he connects with a hook.
Two circles away from the clinch attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Five fails with a takedown attempt.
Two scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Five doesn't seem bothered though.
Five will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Recruit Two has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Recruit Five.

Two shoots for a double leg takedown but Five sprawls well. He's pushed Two's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Five closes the distance but Two moves to the side
and Two counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Five is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Danga de danga de dang - Five scores with a four punch combination!
Two fails with the takedown.
Two fails in his attempt to clinch.

Two closes the distance and clinches.
Five tries for a takedown. No joy.

Five pulls guard effortlessly.
Two scoring with punches to the head and body.
Five is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Two stands up from Five's guard - Two perhaps looking for a knockout.
Two shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Five defends it nicely.
Five swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Five wants to clinch up but Two keeps it at a distance.
Two wants to clinch.
Two sets himself, and Five steps forward looking for the clinch! Two avoids it this time.
Recruit Two is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Two shoots in looking for a takedown. Five tries to sprawl out of it but Two keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Five manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Two takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Five shoots in but no luck this time.
Five stuns Two with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Five doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Two counters with a crisp one two that drops Five! Two thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Five to his feet! Five is in big trouble!
Five tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Two defends well and Five ends up having to push Two into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Five throws a head kick that half lands.
Five lands with a kick to the ribs.

Two closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Two goes for a takedown in the clinch but Five prevents it.
A right hand to the body from Five.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Two tries for a takedown. No joy.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Five.
Two tries a knee to the head but Five blocks it.

Two breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Five closes this distance looking for a takedown but Two circles away.
Five walks forward, straight into a front kick from Two.

Five has managed to clinch.
Two wants a takedown but no success here.
Two dodges an elbow strike from Five.
Two tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Five just stands there and leans against the cage.
Five goes for a takedown in the clinch but Two prevents it.
Two tries to pull guard but Five holds him up against the cage and eventually Two drops back down to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Recruit Five showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Two looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Two jabs Five to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Five closes the distance and clinches up with Two, looking for a takedown. Five pushes Two against the cage but Two circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Two tries a head kick but it misses.
As Two backs off Five throws a huge counter combo but Two manages to avoid it all.
Two shoots in looking for a takedown but Five manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Two's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Two gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Five slows down the pace here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Five works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Two manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Five manages to get himself to full guard.


That's one minute gone in the round.
Two is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Two wants to control from the top but Five keeps moving.
Two postures up.
Two not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Two drops back looking for a leg! Five is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Five manages to kick Two off! Two jumps back into Five's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Five not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Two stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Five swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Five is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Five is pulling down on Two's head to control his posture.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Five has closed the distance and engaged Two in a clinch.

Two breaks from the clinch.

Five closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Two quickly recovers to half guard.

Two has one foot on Five's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Two tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Five swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Recruit Two. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Two looking to score a takedown here. Five is defending well but Two drives through and ends up in Five's guard.

Five pushes Two off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Two rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Five moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Five lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Five tries to score a power double leg takedown but Two sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Five somewhat.
It looked like Two was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Five is defended easily by Two.
Five with a poor takedown
and Two counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Five stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Five wants it to stay on the feet.
Five stuffs the takedown attempt from Two. Two gets slowly back to his feet.
Five throws a head kick but Two moves out of range.
Five tries to clinch up but Two circles away and keeps his distance.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Recruit Two.
I think Two has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
