Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bruno Aires (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyle Fretwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bruno Aires is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 11 - 1, fighting out of New York, Bruno Aires!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lyle Fretwell!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Colin Fotheringham and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fretwell takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Fretwell jabs at Aires's body.
Fretwell tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Aires defends well and Fretwell ends up having to push Aires into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Aires wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Fretwell manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Aires on his heels. He'll look to pass Aires's guard now, I'm sure.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fretwell postures up in Aires's guard and throws a big left but Aires blocks it.
Fretwell makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Fretwell is looking to advance position but Aires has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Fretwell is desperately trying to improve his position but Aires has a good base and remains in mount.

Fretwell tries to lock up and control but Aires gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Fretwell is bucking up trying to escape but Aires cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Aires prevents Fretwell from getting the reversal.

Fretwell is in all sorts of trouble here.
Aires takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Nice uppercut lands for Aires. That snapped Fretwell's head back.
Fretwell throws a body shot but no joy.
That kick from Aires tenderised Fretwell's leg. Fretwell is trying to keep his angry face on.

Aires uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
The fighters circle momentarily. Aires darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Lyle Fretwell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

It looked like Aires wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Aires throws a punch but it's blocked by Fretwell.

Aires is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Fretwell can do to turn this around?

Fretwell breaks the clinch.
Aires throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Fretwell stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Fretwell darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Fretwell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Aires keeps working.
Aires keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Aires wants to improve his position but Fretwell is controlling well.

Fretwell stands up and beckons Aires to join him on the feet.
No luck for Fretwell with that takedown attempt.

Aires fails in his attempt to clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Aires looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Aires enables Fretwell to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Aires manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Aires pulls Fretwell in close to prevent any damage.
Fretwell is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Aires is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Fretwell got a little sloppy there for a moment and Aires has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Fretwell has managed to get both his arms back between Aires's legs - danger averted.
Fretwell stands and throws Aires's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Aires tries to bench press Fretwell off him but Fretwell keeps the position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Bruno Aires will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Jab, jab by Aires - just one landing.

Aires closes the distance and pushes Fretwell back into the cage.

Fretwell has picked Aires up - he's going for a ride! Fretwell dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Aires is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Fretwell wants to advance to full mount but Aires doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Aires has momentary wrist control but Fretwell slips an elbow through the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

You can see the frustration on Aires's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Aires tries to bench press Fretwell off him but Fretwell keeps the position.
An elbow from Fretwell crashes against the mat.
Aires is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Renegade Training Center, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Lyle Fretwell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Fretwell is trying to get an arm triangle but Aires is defending well.
Aires on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Fretwell throws an elbow but Aires slips to the side and avoids it well.
Aires dodges the ground and pound from Fretwell.

Aires is trying to control Fretwell's posture but Fretwell avoids it.

Fretwell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Aires keeps working.

Bruno Aires is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Fretwell looks to land a body kick but Aires moved away.
Aires tries to clinch there but Fretwell circles away.
A nice inside leg kick there by Aires. That's going to slow Fretwell down.
Aires lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Aires lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Aires tests Fretwell's chin there with a solid looking shot.

and Aires counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Fretwell takes a swing at Aires's ribcage but misses.

and Aires counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Aires throws a leg kick which misses Fretwell's front leg but catches the back leg as Fretwell tries to avoid it.

Fretwell takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Aires avoids the head kick by Fretwell.
Fretwell throws a right hand that Aires ducks under and follows up with a left that Aires also avoids with ease.

Fretwell with an attempt at a knee that misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bruno Aires.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Aires, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
