PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Xabilonso Alonso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sonny Caballero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alonso's entrance music is Die Motherfker Die. A fine choice. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Xabilonso Alonso!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Johanna Lukiainen and Ben Zyskovitsi.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caballero looks for the body kick but Alonso saw that one coming.
Alonso scores with a shot to the body.
Caballero changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Alonso tries to avoid it but Caballero manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Alonso to the ground. Alonso escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

As Caballero looks to move away, Alonso throws a big counter combo but Caballero just gets out of the way.
Xabilonso Alonso has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sonny Caballero.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Caballero looks to land a combination but Alonso avoids it well.
Caballero should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Caballero shoots in looking for a takedown. Alonso tries to sprawl out of it but Caballero keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Alonso manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Alonso lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Sonny Caballero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Caballero misses with a low kick.
Caballero takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Alonso ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Caballero takes a swing at Alonso's ribcage but misses.

Alonso shoots in and gets a takedown into Caballero's guard.
Caballero wants to sweep here but Alonso controlling him for the moment.
Alonso has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Caballero is proving hard to escape from.

Caballero is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Caballero postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Alonso to stand up.

Caballero drives through with a takedown into Alonso's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Alonso can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Caballero controls the pace.
Caballero's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Let's hope that Caballero has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Caballero closes the distance and clinches up with Alonso, looking for a takedown. Caballero pushes Alonso against the cage but Alonso circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Caballero swats away the attempt to clinch by Alonso.
Caballero throws a series of punches but Alonso moves out of range.
Alonso looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.

and Caballero decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Alonso's guard.

Alonso is looking to stand up but Caballero isn't so interested in that idea.
Caballero stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alonso swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Caballero seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That was a close round but I would say that Xabilonso Alonso will probably get the nod.

Alonso fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Caballero sprawls well initially but Alonso persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Caballero has his hands clasped together around Alonso's back. He's all about the action.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Caballero has eaten all the pies!

The fighters are working up against the cage. Alonso manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Alonso feints and then cracks Caballero's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Caballero down.

Alonso gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Alonso throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Caballero's waist but Caballero gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Alonso off to one side.
Alonso throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Caballero shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Alonso's guard.

Alonso will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Caballero maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Alonso could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Caballero has cracked it and Alonso is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Caballero!
