PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Harry Gartola (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robo Pope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pope has chosen Ghost - Monstrance Clock as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 43 - 0, fighting out of New York, Robo Pope!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, John Kavanagh and Bruno Lombardi.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pope throws a head kick but Gartola moves out of range.

Gartola takes the fight into the clinch.
Pope can't break the clinch.

Gartola manages to break the clinch.
Gartola tries to clinch but Pope is having none of it.
Pope stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pope wants it to stay on the feet.
Gartola definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Gartola feints and then cracks Pope's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Pope down.
Pope takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Gartola moves in looking to clinch but Pope pushes him off.
Pope throws a head kick but Gartola moves out of range.
Pope circles away from the clinch attempt.

Gartola rushes Pope and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Pope has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Pope is trying to break the clinch but Gartola has him pressed against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gartola breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Gartola shoots in looking for a takedown but Pope manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gartola's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

A jab-cross combination lands for Gartola and sends Pope crashing to the mat! Gartola follows him down to the mat - Pope regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!

It looks like Robo Pope has been cut.
Pope looks winded!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gartola decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Pope tries to keep at a distance but Gartola has taken the fight into the clinch.
Gartola has Pope pressed against the cage, preventing Pope from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pope wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Gartola prevents Pope from breaking the clinch.
Pope is looking to break free of the clinch but Gartola has double underhooks.

Gartola manages to break the clinch.

Gartola closes the distance and clinches.
Pope has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Pope wants to break the clinch but can't.

Gartola pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A head kick by Pope misses
and Gartola counters with a right, left combo that wobbles Pope badly! Gartola follows up with a massive right hook, straight to the bridge of the nose that knocks Pope out cold! Oh wow, what a finish! Very reminiscent of Koscheck vs Yoshida as Gartola finished him against the cage.
