PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Raiymbek Batyr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dorian Yates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 15 - 0, fighting out of London, Raiymbek Batyr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 1, fighting out of London, Dorian Yates!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Atkins and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Batyr misses with a looping left.
Batyr blocks the body kick.
Batyr appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
A head kick by Yates misses
and Batyr counters with a straight right hand.
Yates swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Yates throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Yates is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Batyr can't fight it off and eventually Yates manages to take the fight to the floor. Batyr looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Batyr wants to get back to his feet but Yates is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Batyr is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at O'Brannigans MMA that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Batyr manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Yates keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Batyr jumps guard but Yates turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Batyr tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Batyr drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Yates gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Yates has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Yates bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Yates connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Yates's corner calls for a 1-2. Yates obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Batyr enables Yates to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Batyr manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Batyr scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Batyr shoots in and drives through. Yates sprawls well.

Yates darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Batyr makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Batyr feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Batyr has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Yates off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Dorian Yates seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Batyr misses with a takedown
and Yates counters with an inside leg kick.
Yates connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Dorian Yates will probably get the nod.

Raiymbek Batyr overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Yates takes a little break here. Batyr wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Yates tries to advance to mount but Batyr denies him.

Batyr shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Yates as he avoids it easily.

Yates shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Batyr is trying to defend but Yates finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Batyr looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Batyr throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Yates sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Batyr drops down looking for a counter takedown but Yates sprawls and moves away.

Batyr walks forward, straight into a front kick from Yates.

Yates turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Batyr shoots in but Yates avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Horrible takedown attempt by Batyr or perhaps it was just good defense by Yates, which made it look bad.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Yates closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

and Yates makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
