PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Monroe Willis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Lashley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Monroe Willis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bobby Lashley!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Francis DeMontford and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Willis has taken the fight to the clinch.
Willis tries to break the clinch but Lashley is controlling the position.

Willis wants to get back to striking at distance but Lashley won't allow it.
Willis has Lashley pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Lashley manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Lashley escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Lashley shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Willis napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Willis wants to get back to his feet but Lashley is dominant here and he's now got Willis's back!

Lashley is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Willis is defending well though. Lashley let's go of the attempt for now.

It looks like Monroe Willis has been cut.
Lashley is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Willis is really stuck here.

Lashley is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Lashley is trying to stick to Willis's back but Willis is turning into Lashley. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Lashley's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Willis.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lashley looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lashley can do anything to dispel that myth.
Lashley is controlling Willis's posture.

Willis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lashley has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Willis has managed to get both his arms back between Lashley's legs - danger averted.
Willis might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Willis wants to stand but Lashley is controlling his posture from full guard.

Lashley is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Willis defends well.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Lashley holds on and takes a little breather.

Lashley seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Willis wanted to stand there but Lashley had control of the position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
You can see the frustration on Willis's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Willis tries to bench press Lashley off him but Lashley keeps the position.
Willis is working hard here to advance position.
Lashley in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Lashley is looking for a kimura but Willis is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lashley to get the leverage.

Willis is staying active underneath Lashley, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Lashley is in close to Willis's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Lashley stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Willis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Lashley is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Lashley decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Willis shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Lashley feints and as Willis raises his hands in defense, Lashley changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Lashley is standing up over Willis. Willis looks to escape but Lashley dives into side control.

Lashley lands a decent elbow from side control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lashley is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Willis is not content to let Lashley control the position.

Willis is trying to stand up here but Lashley is controlling him well.
Well, if Lashley is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Lashley winds up and cracks Willis with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Lashley takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Willis wants to stand and escape but Lashley is having none of it.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Willis wants to get back to his feet but Lashley drags him back down.
Monroe Willis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bobby Lashley is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Lashley takes a little break here. Willis wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Well Lashley has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
