PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Len Duran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Wall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Len Duran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Phil Wall!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Summer Carpenter and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duran tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Wall swivels and escapes.
Wall shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Duran sprawls well. Duran wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Wall gets slowly back to his feet.

Duran shoots in and gets a takedown into Wall's guard.
Duran keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Wall's head.
Duran stops Wall from standing up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Duran postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Duran scoring with some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wall is looking for a triangle here but Duran uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Duran thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Duran tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Wall gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Duran working Wall over with strikes.
Duran slips a nice elbow through Wall's hands, connecting with Wall's forehead.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Wall trying to control from the bottom.
Duran not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Duran takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Wall wants to improve his position but Duran is controlling well.
Wall has hold of Duran's hands but Duran slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Duran looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Duran scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Duran stalling.

Wall pushes Duran off and gets back to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Duran looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Wall fails with the takedown.
Duran appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Wall clinches with his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wall prevents the takedown attempt.

Duran has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Wall uses from the top position.
Wall prevents Duran from getting back to his feet.
Wall looking to sit in guard and control but Duran gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Duran is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Wall is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Duran is controlling him.
Duran might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Len Duran dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Duran doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Wall counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Duran drives through with a takedown into Wall's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wall not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Wall throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Duran cracks Wall with a solid left hand.
Duran is looking to work some ground and pound but Wall has wrist control.

Wall pushes Duran off and scrambles back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wall rushes Duran and presses him up against the cage.
Wall tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Duran just stands there and leans against the cage.
Duran tries for a takedown but Wall manages to get underhooks.

Duran manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Wall decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Duran could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Duran stuffs the takedown.
Duran darts in trying to clinch
and Wall counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Wall is trying hard to land a takedown here. Duran sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Duran appears to be looking for a big counter.
Len Duran has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phil Wall.
Wall shoots in for a takedown but Duran shows good takedown defense.
Wall fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Duran tries to counter by clinching up but Wall breaks away and moves out of range.
Wall is breathing heavily.

Duran gets tackled into the cage by Wall. Wall maintains the clinch.

Duran turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Duran manages to end up in side control.
Wall takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Duran working the body and head with strikes.

Duran is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Wall knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Wall is working to avoid the ground and pound but Duran connects with a decent elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wall is trying to get back to half guard.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.

Duran wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Wall, who protects the arm well.
Wall can't do much from the bottom here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Wall is trying to get back to his feet.
Duran scoring with punches from side control.
You can see the frustration on Wall's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Wall wants to get back to his feet but Duran drags him back down.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wall takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Duran happy to just control the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Len Duran will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Duran closes the distance and clinches.
Duran is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Wall can do to turn this around?
Duran jumps guard but Wall stands there with Duran around his waist. Duran gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Wall.
Duran looking for a takedown.
Wall has Duran pushed against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wall lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Wall lands a good knee to the midsection. Duran won't want to take too many of those.
Duran jumps guard but Wall stands there with Duran around his waist. Duran gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Len Duran. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wall is looking to take this one to the mat.

Duran has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Wall uses from the top position.
Duran tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Duran is working an open guard so Wall takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Wall closes the distance and clinches up with Duran, looking for a takedown. Wall pushes Duran against the cage but Duran circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Wall fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Len Duran is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wall shoots for a takedown but Duran saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Wall closes the distance and clinches.

Duran pulls Wall into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Duran throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Wall stands up and waves to Duran to follow him.
Phil Wall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wall throws a quick inside leg kick.

Wall drives through and clinches with Duran against the cage.
Duran looking for a takedown.

Wall breaks the clinch.
Wall fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Duran has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Duran drags the fight down to the ground.
Duran keeping moving, preventing Wall from controlling successfully.

Wall gets to his feet - Duran follows without any prompting.
Duran wants to clinch up but Wall keeps it at a distance.
Wall drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Duran defends it well.

Wall pushes Duran up against the cage in a clinch.
Duran is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Wall pulls guard effortlessly.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Duran throws a strike but Wall rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Duran keeping moving, preventing Wall from controlling successfully.
Len Duran overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Wall drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Duran dives on top into guard.

Duran working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Phil Wall has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Duran chips away with some ground and pound.
Len Duran is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Duran throws an elbow that misses. Wall uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Duran's guard. Nice move by Wall!


And that's the end of the fight!
Phil Wall comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Duran has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
