PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucjan Anielski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Penn comes to the cage accompanied by Everything in its right place. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, James Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 24 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lucjan Anielski!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Anielski's guard.

Anielski is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Penn presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Penn manages to break the clinch.
Penn has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Penn looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
We've been informed that Anielski has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Penn changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Anielski tries to avoid it but Penn manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Anielski to the ground. Anielski escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Anielski tries a quick counter leg kick but Penn is wise to it.

and Penn counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Penn feints and then cracks Anielski's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Anielski down.
Anielski misses with an uppercut. Penn saw that one coming.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Anielski, as that shot connected.
A looping hook to the body misses from Anielski. Penn does a little dance to reset his feet.
Anielski misses the jab.
Penn tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Anielski was well out of range. Poor timing from Penn.
A combination from Anielski does no damage.
Penn connects with a leg kick. Anielski looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Anielski misses with a body shot.
Penn throws a counter high kick but Anielski was just alert enough to avoid it.
Penn throws a jab but it's blocked by Anielski.

A decent looking cross lands there for Penn.
Penn throws a series of punches but Anielski moves out of range.
Penn throws a sloppy head kick and Anielski moves out of range easily.
Anielski thumps Penn with a low kick.
Anielski throws a leg kick which misses Penn's front leg but catches the back leg as Penn tries to avoid it.
Anielski slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Anielski throws a front kick aimed at Penn's knee but Penn avoids it well.
Anielski throws a body shot but no joy.
Penn tries to bum rush Anielski with a series of wild strikes but Anielski uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

and Penn cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Penn throws a body kick that misses.
Penn throws a hook to the side of Anielski's head but Anielski sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Penn.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Penn looking to control but instead Anielski has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.

Penn wants to lay and pray for a moment but Anielski keeps working.

Penn wants to take a breather but Anielski is having none of it.
Penn has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Penn is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Anielski doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Penn.

Anielski is doing well to control the position and prevent Penn from advancing to side control.
Penn is looking to advance position but Anielski won't allow it.
Penn is trying to control the action in half guard but Anielski is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Penn throws a strike but Anielski rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Penn is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Penn is on top in guard.

Penn controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that James Penn will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Penn shoots for a takedown but Anielski saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Anielski ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Anielski misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

As Anielski looks to move away, Penn throws a big counter combo but Anielski just gets out of the way.

Penn throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
James Penn is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Anielski fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Anielski lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Penn throws a wild body kick that Anielski sees coming a mile off.
Penn throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Anielski.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Penn throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Anielski was covering up waiting for the punch and Penn finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Anielski working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Penn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Penn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Penn tries to free his leg and advance position but Anielski is retaining full guard.

Anielski is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Anielski wants to control from the top but Penn keeps moving.

Penn is pushing down on Anielski's leg trying to pass to half guard. Anielski is fighting to maintain full guard but Penn has managed to sneak the leg through.

James Penn showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Penn has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
