PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ali Cali (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandin King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Ali Cali!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Brandin King!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Michael Johnstone and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King takes a swing at Cali's ribcage but misses.

Cali shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Cali was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
King struggling a bit here.
King manages to get back to half guard.
Cali winds up and cracks King with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Cali working over King with some ground and pound. King looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Cali is trying to work for a kimura but King is defending well.
Cali throws a strike but King avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Cali working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
King has momentary wrist control but Cali slips an elbow through the middle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cali accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Cali throws an elbow that misses. King uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cali's guard. Nice move by King!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
King avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
King lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Cali at a distance.
King throws a series of punches but Cali moves out of range.

Cali takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

and Cali counters with a series of strikes. King will be more careful next time no doubt.
King misses with a two punch combination.
As King backs away, Cali returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Cali tries to clinch there but King circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Brandin King will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


King scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Brandin King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cali is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
King is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Cali rather than just go for the knockout.

King will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

King rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cali moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

King uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Cali tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Cali is looking for a takedown up against the cage. King gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
King lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Cali backwards.

Cali manages to break the clinch.
King connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cali takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

King swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Brandin King is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
King swings for the body but Cali moves out of range.
Cali tries to clinch up but King circles away and keeps his distance.

Brandin King showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

It looked like Cali wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Brandin King is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

King avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cali looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Cali tries to score a power double leg takedown but King sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cali somewhat.
King is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

King scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Cali doesn't seem bothered though.

Cali is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Brandin King comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got King winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
