PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andrei Kopylov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Salomon Nevalainen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Andrei Kopylov has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Andrei Kopylov seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Andrei Kopylov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Salomon Nevalainen!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Sandra Marshall and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kopylov.
Kopylov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Nevalainen sprawls well. Nevalainen wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kopylov gets slowly back to his feet.
Nevalainen stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Nevalainen wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andrei Kopylov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kopylov swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
A head kick misses from Nevalainen.
Nevalainen blocks a jab.

Kopylov gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Nevalainen to score an easy takedown into full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kopylov on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kopylov tries to get out of the position.

Kopylov isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Nevalainen stacks Kopylov on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Nevalainen!
Kopylov tries to bench press Nevalainen off him but Nevalainen keeps the position.

Kopylov can't do much from the bottom here.
Kopylov is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Nevalainen lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Kopylov is looking for a sweep. Nevalainen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Nevalainen is keen to just control but Kopylov is a slippery customer.
Kopylov makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kopylov.
Kopylov has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Kopylov is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Kopylov is looking for a triangle but Nevalainen pushes his legs off easily.
Kopylov is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Nevalainen lands a couple of elbows.

Nevalainen scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Kopylov looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Nevalainen working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Kopylov's head.

Kopylov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nevalainen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nevalainen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Nevalainen stands up over Kopylov, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Nevalainen trying to control the position from guard on top but Kopylov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Nevalainen chips away with some ground and pound.

Kopylov is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Kopylov has his foot on Nevalainen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nevalainen works his way back into a safe position though.

Nevalainen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kopylov has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nevalainen has managed to get both his arms back between Kopylov's legs - danger averted.

Kopylov has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Nevalainen has passed into side control.
Nevalainen lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Kopylov down.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kopylov is looking to regain half guard here but Nevalainen keeps moving and retains side control.
Kopylov is working hard here to advance position.
Kopylov manages to work his way to half guard, despite Nevalainen's best efforts.
Nevalainen lands strikes from half guard.
Kopylov is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Nevalainen scores with a couple of nice shots.
Kopylov won't allow Nevalainen to pass to mount.
Nevalainen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kopylov with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nevalainen is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Kopylov is looking to get back to full guard here but Nevalainen has managed to pass to side control instead.

Nevalainen has control of an arm but Kopylov manages to advance to Nevalainen's back!
Oh Kopylov is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Nevalainen rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Nevalainen is staying active underneath Kopylov, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kopylov seems to have got his legs back now.

Kopylov is looking to pass Nevalainen's guard but actually Nevalainen recovers to full guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Kopylov swings around for an armbar but Nevalainen sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Kopylov's guard.

Kopylov is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Nevalainen defends well.

Nevalainen postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Nevalainen trying to control but Kopylov is working from the bottom.

Kopylov looking for a guillotine here but Nevalainen defends easily.
Kopylov not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Kopylov has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Nevalainen is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Kopylov.
Kopylov is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Nevalainen off and has taken his back!

Kopylov has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Nevalainen's body.

Kopylov tightening his grip on Nevalainen, looking for the choke.

Kopylov looking to break Nevalainen's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Nevalainen remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Kopylov will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Will Kopylov go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Salomon Nevalainen dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Kopylov has Nevalainen pulled in close to control his posture.

Nevalainen has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Kopylov to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Nevalainen is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Kopylov pulls down on the head and he's put Nevalainen to sleep! This one is all over!
