The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Friend closes this distance looking for a takedown but DeMarinni circles away.
DeMarinni is looking to counter punch.

DeMarinni gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Friend to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Friend drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but DeMarinni manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Friend has DeMarinni in his guard.

DeMarinni wants to stand and escape but instead Friend has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Friend tries to reverse the position but DeMarinni maintains control.

Friend's coach down at was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Friend's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

and DeMarinni counters with a crisp right hand that drops Friend! DeMarinni lets Friend back up to his feet, looking for a finish!

and DeMarinni rattles Friend with a well-timed uppercut counter. - Friend tries to back away and recover but his hands are down low and he gets tagged again, sending him stumbling down to the canvas. DeMarinni dives in after him and quickly finishes the job with a trio of brutal punches, leaving Friend stiff and motionless on the mat!
