PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jake LaMotta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jan Rey Reyes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think LaMotta might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Cavalleria Rusticana: Intermezzo. Jan Rey Reyes told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The judges for this bout are William Gold, Phil Schofield and James Ackerman.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reyes lands with an overhand left.
Reyes cracks a nice hook into LaMotta's ribs.
LaMotta shoots in for a takedown but Reyes shows good takedown defense.
Reyes let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.

LaMotta closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Reyes's guard.
LaMotta makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
LaMotta wants to pass the guard but Reyes is keeping the position.
LaMotta controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reyes keeping moving, preventing LaMotta from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
LaMotta is looking to work some ground and pound but Reyes has wrist control.

LaMotta controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

LaMotta trying to control the position from guard on top but Reyes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Reyes wants to sweep but no luck.
LaMotta stands and throws Reyes's legs to the side, diving into side control.

LaMotta lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Reyes down.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Reyes can do anything to dispel that myth.
LaMotta wants to control but Reyes is keeping him busy.
LaMotta creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
LaMotta connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Reyes some visible discomfort.

LaMotta has an Americana. Reyes didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! LaMotta is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if LaMotta hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
