PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mike Perry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Plouman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rodrigo Plouman told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Perry!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Rodrigo Plouman!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Donald Grub and Andrew Berry.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Plouman has a takedown stuffed.
Plouman misses with a takedown
and Perry counters with a straight right hand.
Perry misses with a looping left.
Perry lunges at Plouman with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Plouman's hand.
Perry catches Plouman with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Plouman looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A quick step to the side and Perry tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mike Perry has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rodrigo Plouman.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Perry jabs at Plouman's body.
Plouman tries for a takedown but Perry sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Perry keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Perry thuds his right hand into Plouman's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Perry scores with a jab to the jaw.
Perry moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Plouman tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Perry defends well and Plouman ends up having to push Perry into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Plouman fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Perry clobbers Plouman with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Perry looks to score with a jab to the body but Plouman is just out of range.
Plouman tries to score a power double leg takedown but Perry sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Plouman somewhat.
It looks like Perry has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Perry darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Perry jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Plouman shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Perry sprawls well. Perry wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Plouman gets slowly back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Perry lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Plouman blocks a jab.
Plouman with the counter takedown but Perry avoids it easily.
Perry lands a jab.
Perry slaps away a takedown attempt from Plouman, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Perry was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

and Perry counters with a straight right hand.
Perry connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Plouman momentarily.
Plouman shoots and misses
and Perry counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Plouman defending well as Perry loads up on a big left hand.
Perry connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Plouman tumbling to the canvas! Perry pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Plouman was done - good stoppage!
