PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chi Gu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ringo Starr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gu's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Put It On-Big L. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chi Gu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ringo Starr!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab from Gu.
Starr tries for a takedown but Gu circles away easily
and Gu connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Starr changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gu looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Starr tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Starr has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Starr is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Gu's shoulder. That is not cool.
Gu is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Starr has just dragged him back down to the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gu prevents Starr from moving into mount.
Starr trying to control the position but Gu is working away.
Starr tries to move to mount but Gu blocks the move with his legs.
Gu tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Gu might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Starr content just to control the position here.
Gu's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Starr trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Starr controlling his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Starr tries to control but Gu wriggling away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ringo Starr dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Gu pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Gu scores with a decent looking hook.
Starr changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gu tries to avoid it but Starr manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gu to the ground. Gu escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Starr shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Starr is looking to stall here but Gu recovers full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Starr passes into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Starr trying to control from Gu's half guard. Gu has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Starr wants to pass the guard but Gu is keeping the position.
Starr controlling from the top position.
Starr trying to control the position from guard on top but Gu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gu is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Starr is controlling him.
Gu wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Starr manages to pass to side control.
Starr is looking to advance position but Gu won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Starr looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Starr has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Starr wants to take Gu's back here but Gu is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Gu defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Starr.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Starr trying to control but Gu is having none of it.
Starr might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Gu haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Ringo Starr has got the better of the ground game so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Starr takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ringo Starr showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Gu scores with the left hand. Starr knows he should have avoided that one.
Gu throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Starr counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Starr passes to full mount!
Starr moves to take his opponent's back.
Gu is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gu prevents Starr from getting a body triangle.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Starr keeps control of the position easily here as Gu tries to buck him off.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Starr's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Gu is trying to get back to his feet but Starr has full control of the position and if anything, Gu has just worked his way into a worse spot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Starr trying to control momentarily.

Gu won't enjoy being in this position. Starr looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Gu is tapping - it's over boys! Starr picks up the submission victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:38 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ringo Starr!
Our winner, Ringo Starr, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
