PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chris Conley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Demian Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Chris Conley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Demian Maia!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Chris Edwards and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Conley connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
A big left from Conley misses.
A countering left hand to the body from Maia misses.
We've been hearing reports that Conley has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Maia pushes Conley up against the cage in a clinch.
Conley lands with a short shot to the head.
Conley pushes Maia back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Conley throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Conley breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Conley throws a hook to the side of Maia's head but Maia sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
A lazy left from Conley finds it's target.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Maia.
Conley is looking to counter punch.
Maia shoots in looking for a takedown. Conley tries to sprawl out of it but Maia keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Conley manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Maia shoots for a takedown but Conley saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Chris Conley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Demian Maia.
Conley cracks Maia with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Conley throws a body shot but no joy.
Maia tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Maia moves in looking to clinch but Conley pushes him off.
It looked like Conley wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Maia throws a solid leg kick but Conley takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Maia.

Conley's jab looks to have found its range, popping Maia under the eye.
Conley circles away from the clinch attempt.
Conley connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Maia momentarily.
Demian Maia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Maia throws a looping overhand right but Conley ducks down to avoid it.
Conley swings for the body but Maia moves out of range.
Conley throws out a loose jab but Maia uses good head movement to avoid it.
Maia ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Conley moves away.
Conley catches Maia with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Conley is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.

Maia misses with a takedown attempt - Conley sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Conley looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Conley throws a hook but Maia blocks it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Maia tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
You can see the frustration on Conley's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Conley is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Maia's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Conley throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maia trying to control the position from guard on top but Conley is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Conley manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Maia manages to get himself to full guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Conley dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Conley gets a double leg takedown into Maia's guard.

Maia uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Conley is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Maia can do to turn this around?

Maia throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Conley moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Conley looks to throw the jab but Maia is out of range.
Conley stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Conley wants it to stay on the feet.

Conley throws out a loose jab but Maia uses good head movement to avoid it.
Maia changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Conley stuffs the takedown.

Conley lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Conley is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Maia.
Maia tries to counter with a clinch but Conley shakes him off and moves away.

Maia tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Conley was well out of range. Poor timing from Maia.
Conley wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Conley throws a left jab followed by a right to the body, Oh Maia colapses and takes a barrage of punches from Conley as he moves to mount! the ref stops the fight and Maia is left battered and dazed whilst Conley and his camp cheer!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chris Conley!
A very excited looking Chris Conley made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
