PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gareth McCall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Esteban Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McCall comes into the arena with Bobby Darin - Mack The Knife blaring out of the sound system. Scott is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Scotty Doesn't Know. Gareth McCall could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Esteban Scott's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 11 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Esteban Scott!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCall throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Scott on the side of the head.
A punch lands to the side of Scott 's head but he takes it in his stride.

McCall is looking to clinch.
A looping hook to the body misses from Scott. McCall does a little dance to reset his feet.
McCall tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Scott manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
McCall keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
It looked like McCall wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
McCall tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Scott shoots in but McCall avoids the takedown attempt easily.
It looked like McCall was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Scott.

McCall connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Scott's hands.
Scott shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has McCall pinned against the cage. McCall gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

McCall was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Scott dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Scott shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts McCall as he jumps to the side.

McCall tries to close the distance and clinch up but Scott swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Scott tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. McCall smiles and moves away.

No joy there for Scott, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Scott looks to score with a jab to the body but McCall is just out of range.

Esteban Scott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McCall displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Scott throws out the jab.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Scott drops back looking for a leg! McCall is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and McCall manages to kick Scott off! Scott jumps back into McCall's guard.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Scott working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

McCall gets caught napping as Scott dives in and scores a takedown. McCall manages to retain guard.

McCall is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Scott jumps guard but McCall stands there with Scott around his waist. Scott gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Gareth McCall.
I think Scott has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
