PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Deangelo Flagg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erkki Heimolainen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Flagg comes to the cage accompanied by What Its Like. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Deangelo Flagg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Erkki Heimolainen!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Heimolainen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Heimolainen showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Flagg.

Heimolainen closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Flagg wants to improve his position but Heimolainen is controlling well.
Heimolainen is keen to just control but Flagg is a slippery customer.

Flagg looking for submissions off his back.
Heimolainen is looking to advance position but Flagg won't allow it.

Heimolainen is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Flagg is just riding it out for now. Heimolainen eventually gives up the hold.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Heimolainen is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Flagg has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Flagg is looking for a sweep. Heimolainen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Heimolainen passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Flagg!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Flagg is looking to improve his position but Heimolainen isn't that keen on the idea.
Flagg bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Flagg wants to control from the top but Heimolainen keeps moving.
Flagg is fighting to break Heimolainen's control of his arms but Heimolainen is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Flagg tries to free his leg and advance position but Heimolainen is retaining full guard.
Heimolainen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Flagg is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Heimolainen is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Flagg controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Heimolainen is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Heimolainen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Flagg throws his legs up looking for a submission but Heimolainen uses it to pass to side control.
Heimolainen is staying tight to Flagg's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Heimolainen's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Heimolainen has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Flagg!
Flagg wants to hold on but Heimolainen pushes him away.
Flagg sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Heimolainen seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Flagg does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Flagg is defending against the submission attempts here by Heimolainen.
Heimolainen tries to pass to full mount but Flagg defends it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Flagg misses with some strikes from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Erkki Heimolainen dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ouch! a nice leg kick from Flagg, right into the meat.

Heimolainen closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Flagg to the mat! Flagg manages to get full guard.
Flagg is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Flagg had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Heimolainen defends it easily.
Heimolainen seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Heimolainen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Flagg swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Flagg working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Heimolainen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Heimolainen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Heimolainen wants to control from the top but Flagg keeps moving.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Heimolainen sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Flagg doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Heimolainen paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Flagg - great work!
