PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eduardo Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danny Volcanic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eduardo Alvarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 61 - 28 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Danny Volcanic!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Leandro Rodrigues and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Volcanic gets a double leg takedown into Alvarez's guard.

Alvarez had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Volcanic defends it easily.
Volcanic looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Volcanic throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Alvarez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Volcanic wanted to stand there but Alvarez had control of the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alvarez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Volcanic stands up from Alvarez's guard - Volcanic perhaps looking for a knockout.
Volcanic works over Alvarez's head and body with a nice combination.
Alvarez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Volcanic swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Alvarez counters with a one-two to the body.
Alvarez throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Volcanic on the side of the head.
Volcanic scores with a kick to the midsection.
Alvarez avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Alvarez throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Volcanic lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Volcanic.


It looks like Eduardo Alvarez has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Volcanic throws a nice outside leg kick.
Volcanic jabs Alvarez to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Volcanic steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Alvarez.
Alvarez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Volcanic manages to avoid it.
Alvarez throws a hook to the side of Volcanic's head but Volcanic sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Alvarez misses with a hook
and Volcanic counters with a two punch combo.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Volcanic lands a left and a right that send Alvarez crashing to the mat, dazed. Volcanic thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Alvarez is rocked!
Sloppy strikes from Volcanic. Those never looked like landing.
Oh Alvarez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Volcanic feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Volcanic sitting in guard here, content to control.
Volcanic is looking to stand up but Alvarez won't let him.
Alvarez seems to have got his legs back now.
Alvarez wants to sweep here but Volcanic controlling him for the moment.

Volcanic controlling from the top position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Alvarez is on top in guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Alvarez controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Alvarez trying to control but Volcanic is working from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Alvarez digs a good hook to Volcanic's body.
Volcanic takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Volcanic shoots in and gets a takedown into Alvarez's guard.
Alvarez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Volcanic manages to get himself to full guard.

Alvarez postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Danny Volcanic dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Eduardo Alvarez's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Danny Volcanic seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Volcanic closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Alvarez's guard.
Alvarez is pulling down on Volcanic's head. It's preventing any offense from Volcanic, at least for the moment.
Volcanic has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Volcanic wants to control from the top but Alvarez keeps moving.

Alvarez has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Volcanic should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Alvarez has tightened it up now! Volcanic should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Eduardo Alvarez!
During a confident post fight interview, Eduardo Alvarez thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
