Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
15 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jan Pope!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kieta Vivian!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yuuki Gou and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vivian has his takedown stuffed
and Pope cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Pope has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Body Pain_14elite_700$+VM in the buildup to the fight.
Vivian shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Pope counters with a one-two to the body.
Pope works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Vivian.
Pope fires out a quick counter leg kick but Vivian just manages to avoid it.
Jan Pope has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kieta Vivian.
Pope keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Pope instigates a clinch.
Vivian goes for a takedown in the clinch but Pope prevents it.
Pope lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Knees to the body from Pope.
Pope lands with a left to the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Vivian changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Pope fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Pope fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Vivian.
Pope dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Pope lands with a hook. Vivian tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Vivian.
Vivian shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pope but Pope pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Vivian has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Pope lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Kieta Vivian seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pope fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Vivian.
Pope stuffs the takedown.
Pope swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Pope turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Vivian shoots and misses
and Pope counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Vivian thinking.
Vivian looks winded!
Pope buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Pope lands the left hand.
Pope lands a left and a right that send Vivian crashing to the mat, dazed. Pope thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Vivian is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pope slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Vivian is still on wobbly legs! Can Pope finish him?
Vivian is sent reeling backwards by a solid uppercut. He barely regains his balance and Pope moves in for the kill throwing a continuous barrage of punches that force the ref to step in.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jan Pope!
Jan Pope decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
