PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Smakks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roni Draymond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Smakks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roni Draymond!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Alan Glass and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smakks gets the takedown into side control.

Smakks tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smakks has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Draymond tries to bench press Smakks off him but Smakks keeps the position.
Draymond is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Smakks has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Smakks slows the pace down.

Smakks is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Draymond is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Smakks misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Smakks tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smakks has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A lull in the action here as Smakks stalls from top position.
Draymond tries to buck Smakks off but Smakks is having none of it.
Smakks is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Draymond is looking for a sweep.

Smakks misses with the ground and pound.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Smakks fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Draymond being controlled for a moment.
Smakks has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Draymond is pushing Smakks's head away, looking to escape. Smakks manages to hold on to the position though.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Draymond pushes Smakks away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Smakks gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Draymond is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Draymond really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smakks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Smakks thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Draymond is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Smakks is staying tight to Draymond's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Draymond is trying to escape back to his feet but Smakks uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Draymond closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Smakks's guard.
Draymond throws a big elbow that misses.
Smakks seems keen to control Draymond's posture.

Draymond is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Smakks had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Draymond defends it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smakks pulls Draymond in close to prevent any damage.
Draymond trying to control but Smakks is working from the bottom.

and Draymond makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Smakks takes a kick to the side of the head.
Smakks is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Draymond can do to turn this around?

Draymond throws a right hand that Smakks ducks under and follows up with a left that Smakks also avoids with ease.
Smakks feinted with a counter takedown.
Draymond lands a nice hook to Smakks's body. Smakks takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Horrible takedown attempt by Smakks or perhaps it was just good defense by Draymond, which made it look bad.

Smakks dives in and scores a takedown into Draymond's guard.
Smakks tries to free his leg and advance position but Draymond is retaining full guard.
Smakks slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Johnny Smakks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Smakks drops back looking for a leg! Draymond is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Draymond manages to kick Smakks off! Smakks jumps back into Draymond's guard.

Smakks tries to free his leg and advance position but Draymond is retaining full guard.
Smakks not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Smakks postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Draymond pushes Smakks off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Smakks shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Draymond but Draymond pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Draymond shapes to counter with a head kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Smakks. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Draymond is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Draymond is stalling here. Smakks is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Draymond seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Smakks has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Roni Draymond showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!



Smakks gets caught napping as Draymond dives in and scores a takedown. Smakks manages to retain guard.
Smakks looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Draymond wants to control from the top but Smakks keeps moving.
Draymond is looking to work some ground and pound but Smakks has wrist control.

Draymond gets to his feet. Smakks looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

and Smakks counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
A frustrated look appears on Draymond's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Draymond's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Draymond ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Smakks moves away.
Smakks appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Draymond clinches up against the cage.
Draymond has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Draymond throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Smakks blocks it with crossed arms.
Draymond wants to get back to striking at distance but Smakks won't allow it.
Smakks scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Smakks takes a knee to the side of the body.
Draymond blocking some punches.
Draymond is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Smakks struggles to land a body shot inside as Draymond controls his hands.
Draymond looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Draymond is looking to break free of the clinch but Smakks has double underhooks.

Smakks keeps control of Draymond as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Smakks manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Smakks holds on and takes a little breather.

Draymond throws a strike but Smakks rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Draymond wants to stand but Smakks is controlling the position.
Smakks seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Draymond controls Smakks momentarily but Smakks frees himself.
Smakks prevents Draymond from getting back to his feet.
Draymond is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Smakks is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Smakks pushes down on Draymond's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Smakks with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Smakks is looking for a kimura here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Smakks slips a nice elbow through Draymond's hands, connecting with Draymond's forehead.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Johnny Smakks.
I think Smakks has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
