PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rashad Reilly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hidetaka Miyazaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hidetaka Miyazaki told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rashad Reilly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hidetaka Miyazaki!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Shigeki Fujiwara and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reilly tries for a takedown but Miyazaki sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Reilly really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Miyazaki clinches up with Reilly and pushes him back against the cage.
Miyazaki misses with a hook from the clinch.
Reilly tries to pull guard but Miyazaki holds him up against the cage and eventually Reilly drops back down to his feet.
Reilly letting Miyazaki take a breather here.

Miyazaki pulls guard effortlessly.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reilly working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Miyazaki's head.

Reilly gets to his feet - Miyazaki follows without any prompting.

Miyazaki gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Miyazaki manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Miyazaki is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Reilly throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Reilly would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Miyazaki escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Reilly gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Miyazaki is trying to hold Reilly in close to prevent damage but Reilly has managed to pass into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reilly throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Reilly thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Miyazaki's head.
Reilly looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Miyazaki with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Miyazaki wants to improve his position but Reilly is controlling well.
Miyazaki pushes Reilly off looking to stand but Reilly dives back in and keeps control.

Miyazaki manages to get to full guard.
Miyazaki is trying to control the position but Reilly postures up.

Miyazaki pushes Reilly off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Reilly shoots for a takedown but Miyazaki saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rashad Reilly. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Reilly misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Miyazaki breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Reilly fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Rashad Reilly seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Miyazaki lands with a kick to the ribs.

Miyazaki decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Reilly is looking for a sweep. Miyazaki is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Miyazaki is looking to advance position but Reilly won't allow it.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Reilly had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Miyazaki defends it easily.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Reilly pulls Miyazaki in close to prevent any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reilly controls Miyazaki momentarily but Miyazaki frees himself.
Miyazaki slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Miyazaki's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Reilly tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Miyazaki defends well and Reilly ends up having to push Miyazaki into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Miyazaki misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Miyazaki moves into the clinch.

Miyazaki escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Miyazaki shoots in and gets a takedown into Reilly's guard.

Reilly isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Miyazaki stacks Reilly on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Miyazaki!

Miyazaki stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Miyazaki shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Reilly is trying to defend but Miyazaki finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Reilly is trying to maintain the position but Miyazaki is very close to passing his half guard.

Miyazaki is controlling the pace.
Miyazaki is keen to just control but Reilly is a slippery customer.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Reilly shoots in for a takedown but Miyazaki shows good takedown defense.
Reilly shoots for a double leg takedown but Miyazaki sprawls well. He's pushed Reilly's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hidetaka Miyazaki showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Reilly's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Miyazaki shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Miyazaki showed some decent athleticism there.
Miyazaki wants to stand up but Reilly has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Let's hope that Miyazaki has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Reilly is holding on to half guard well.
Reilly wants to improve his position but Miyazaki is controlling well.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Miyazaki shoots in and bounces Reilly off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Miyazaki got a little sloppy there for a moment and Reilly has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Miyazaki has managed to get both his arms back between Reilly's legs - danger averted.
Miyazaki postures up.
Miyazaki is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Miyazaki stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Miyazaki bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Reilly wants to control but Miyazaki postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Miyazaki thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Miyazaki stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Reilly tries for a takedown but Miyazaki sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Miyazaki throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Reilly was covering up waiting for the punch and Miyazaki finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Reilly has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Miyazaki can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Reilly looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Rashad Reilly has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hidetaka Miyazaki is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hidetaka Miyazaki comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Miyazaki has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
