The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Payne looking to score a takedown here. Lara is defending well but Payne drives through and ends up in Lara's guard.
Payne wants to pass the guard but Lara is keeping the position.
Lara tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Payne trying to control the position from guard on top but Lara is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lara is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lara bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Payne's guard.

Lara thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Lara wanted to stand there but Payne had control of the position.

Payne really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lara. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lara throwing strikes but missing.
Lara connects with a couple of short punches.

Lara decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Payne, up you get!

Payne closes the distance and clinches.
Lara trying to stall but Payne improves his position.
Lara throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Payne blocks it with crossed arms.

Payne jumps guard.
Lara loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Lara postures up in Payne's guard and throws a big left but Payne blocks it.
Payne is looking to stand up but Lara isn't so interested in that idea.
Payne tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Payne is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Lara wants to stand but Payne is controlling his posture from full guard.
Lara throws a big right hand that misses.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Lara drops back looking for a leg! Payne is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Payne manages to kick Lara off! Lara jumps back into Payne's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Payne is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Lara is controlling him.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Payne lands a jab-cross combination.

It looks like Erik Lara has been cut.

Payne looks to score with a jab to the body but Lara is just out of range.

Payne closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Lara takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Lara is rocked!
Payne cracks Lara with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Payne immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Lara is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Payne!
