PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sven Dufva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ric Flores (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sven Dufva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ric Flores!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dufva ducks under a wild hook from Flores.

It looks like Ric Flores has been cut.
Flores changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dufva tries to avoid it but Flores manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dufva to the ground. Dufva escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Dufva tries to counter by clinching up but Flores breaks away and moves out of range.
Dufva swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Flores is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Dufva.
Dufva scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Dufva throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Dufva lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Dufva throws an overhand right that lands on Flores's shoulder, as Flores tries to avoid the shot.
As Dufva backs off Flores throws a huge counter combo but Dufva manages to avoid it all.
Dufva swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Flores scores with a takedown into Dufva's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Flores throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dufva works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Flores is in close to Dufva's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Flores throws an elbow that misses. Dufva uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Flores's guard. Nice move by Dufva!


Flores is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dufva defends well.
We've been hearing good reports from Dufva's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Flores striking off his back, scoring a few points.
Dufva passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Flores takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Dufva trying to control the action but Flores is working from the bottom.
Flores takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Dufva working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Dufva looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Flores is looking to reverse the position.
Flores wants to control but Dufva postures up.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Flores regains half guard.
Dufva wants to take a breather but Flores is having none of it.
Flores is looking to control Dufva's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Flores avoid being mounted?

Dufva seems to be working for a kimura but Flores defends the submission attempt.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Flores punching from the bottom.
Dufva wants to take a breather but Flores is having none of it.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Dufva connects with a nice short shot to Flores's temple.
Flores is not content to let Dufva control the position.
Flores wants to improve his position but Dufva is controlling well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Flores is still trying to improve position.
Dufva performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Dufva landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Dufva tries to pass to full mount but Flores defends it.
Dufva working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Dufva has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dufva is landing with some decent strikes but Flores is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Flores is trying desperately to improve position.
Flores tries to lock up and control but Dufva gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Dufva prevents Flores from getting the reversal.
Flores gets back to half guard.

Flores kicks Dufva off and gets back to his feet.
Dufva rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
letting Flores counter with a right hand.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Flores scores with a head kick.
Dufva fails with an attempt to clinch.
It seemed like Flores was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Dufva on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Dufva gets a double leg takedown into Flores's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sven Dufva dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ric Flores's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!


Decent striking displayed by Dufva there.
A looping hook to the body misses from Dufva. Flores does a little dance to reset his feet.
Dufva takes a swing at Flores's ribcage but misses.
Dufva lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Today's fight clock is brought to you by... OOOH that's a huge shot by Dufva! Flores is in big trouble here - the ref steps in to save him and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sven Dufva!
Sven Dufva very nearly forgot to thank Hellbent amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
