PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dennis Oppelaar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cung Le (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Le has chosen Untouchable as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 37 - 35 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dennis Oppelaar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 33 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cung Le!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circling - Oppelaar throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Oppelaar throws a sloppy head kick and Le moves out of range easily.
Oppelaar throws a left and a right that both miss
letting Le counter with a right hand.
Oppelaar swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Le counters with a head kick that drops Oppelaar - he's looking to finish, following his stunned foe to the ground!


Oppelaar is rocked!
Oppelaar tries to get to full guard but Le has control of the leg.
Oh Oppelaar is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Le really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Oppelaar. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Oppelaar seems to have got his legs back now.
Oppelaar moves into full guard.
Oppelaar is trying to keep Le in close.
Le's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Oppelaar will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Le got a little sloppy there for a moment and Oppelaar has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Le has managed to get both his arms back between Oppelaar's legs - danger averted.
Le is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Oppelaar pulls Le in close to his closed guard and prevents Le from doing any damage or advancing position.

Oppelaar has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Le can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Le stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Oppelaar swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Oppelaar wants to stand up but Le is controlling him.

Le not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Oppelaar is on top in guard.

Oppelaar working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Le's head.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Oppelaar accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Oppelaar wants to control from the top but Le keeps moving.
Le is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Oppelaar throws a big right hand that misses.
Oppelaar throws an elbow that misses. Le uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Oppelaar's guard. Nice move by Le!

Le wants to control from the top but Oppelaar keeps moving.

That was a close round but I would say that Dennis Oppelaar will probably get the nod.

You can see the frustration on Le's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Oppelaar wants to lay and pray for a moment but Le keeps working.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Le takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dennis Oppelaar dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!


Oppelaar lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Le is looking to clinch.
Oppelaar appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Oppelaar dives in for a single leg takedown but Le sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Le swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Oppelaar, as that shot connected.
Le tries to clinch there but Oppelaar circles away.
A looping hook to the body misses from Le. Oppelaar does a little dance to reset his feet.
Le slips a jab and a cross from Oppelaar.
Le scores with a decent looking hook.
No joy there for Oppelaar, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
It seemed like Le was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Oppelaar misses with a double jab
and Le counters with a stiff right hand.
Oppelaar fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Le looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Oppelaar misses with a two punch combination.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Le wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Le moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
The fighters circling - Oppelaar throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Oppelaar is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Le can do to turn this around?
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Le, as that shot connected.
Oppelaar changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Le tries to avoid it but Oppelaar manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Le to the ground. Le escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Oppelaar cracks Le with a right hand to the side of the head.
Nice straight punches there by Oppelaar. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Oppelaar.
Le throws a hook to the side of Oppelaar's head but Oppelaar sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Oppelaar avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cung Le is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Jab, jab by Oppelaar - just one landing.

Le rushes Oppelaar and presses him up against the cage.
Le lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Oppelaar to his knees! Le keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cung Le!
