PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Donnell Hyde (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Garv Pauley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pauley has chosen Steve Earle as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Donnell Hyde!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Garv Pauley!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Jeff Smith and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pauley misses the shot to the body.

and Hyde moves into the clinch.

Pauley has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Hyde regains guard immediately.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hyde is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Pauley defends well.

Hyde really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pauley is looking to take a break and control but Hyde is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Pauley closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Pauley is stalling here. Hyde is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Pauley seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Hyde has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pauley is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Hyde is controlling him well.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Garv Pauley will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Hyde is looking to counter the offense by Pauley and move into the clinch.
Pauley keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.


It looks like Donnell Hyde has been cut.
Pauley shoots in looking for a takedown but Hyde manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Pauley's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Pauley misses with a series of wild punches.
As Pauley looks to move away, Hyde throws a big counter combo but Pauley just gets out of the way.
Pauley throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Hyde counters with a three punch combo that has Pauley backing up. Pauley nods at Hyde to acknowledge the strikes.

Oh Hyde is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hyde misses with a knee strike.

Hyde pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Hyde seems to have got his legs back now.
Donnell Hyde is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Pauley gets a clinch.

Hyde escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Pauley lands with a nice body punch.

Pauley pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Hyde appears to be looking for a big counter.
Pauley looks to land a combination but Hyde avoids it well.
Pauley misses with a few strikes there.
Pauley is breathing heavily.
Pauley cracks Hyde with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Pauley fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hyde sprawls well initially but Pauley persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Hyde wants to improve his position but Pauley is controlling well.

Hyde is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Pauley tries to free his leg and advance position but Hyde is retaining full guard.

Hyde has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pauley can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Pauley is pushing down on Hyde's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hyde is fighting to maintain full guard but Pauley has managed to sneak the leg through.

Pauley wants to work for an arm triangle but Hyde is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Pauley avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pauley with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Hyde throws some shots to the body, keeping his opponent honest.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Pauley controls the position.

Pauley goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Hyde rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Pauley's guard! Nice work there by Hyde!
Hyde is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Pauley escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hyde gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hyde slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Garv Pauley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Pauley has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Hyde clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Pauley got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hyde has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pauley has managed to get both his arms back between Hyde's legs - danger averted.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Hyde seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Pauley for as long as he can get away with.

Garv Pauley is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Pauley fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hyde manages to avoid it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Pauley looks to throw the jab but Hyde is out of range.

A looping hook to the body misses from Pauley. Hyde does a little dance to reset his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Garv Pauley seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hyde takes one to the chin there.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Donnell Hyde.
I think Pauley has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
