The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Golovkin unleashes a big counter combination but Alvarez bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Alvarez scores with a kick to the midsection.
Alvarez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Golovkin tries a head kick but it misses.
Golovkin throws a series of punches but Alvarez moves out of range.
Golovkin throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Golovkin avoids the body shot from Alvarez.

Alvarez closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Golovkin throws Alvarez to one side and escapes!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Golovkin misses with a series of wild punches.
Alvarez thinks about countering with a head kick.
Golovkin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Alvarez fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

and Alvarez counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Golovkin throws a shot from downtown. Alvarez moves away and avoids it.
Gennady Golovkin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Golovkin misses with an uppercut.
Golovkin swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Golovkin thuds his right hand into Alvarez's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Alvarez works over Golovkin 's head and body with a nice combination.

It looks like Gennady Golovkin has been cut.
Golovkin misses with a straight left.

Golovkin gets tackled into the cage by Alvarez. Alvarez maintains the clinch.

Alvarez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Alvarez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Golovkin lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Alvarez circles away quickly and effectively.

Alvarez drives through with a takedown into Golovkin 's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Alvarez is breathing heavily.
Alvarez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Golovkin is proving hard to escape from.
Golovkin wants to stand but Alvarez is controlling the position.

Golovkin scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Golovkin fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Alvarez on the side of the head.

It looks like Jose Alvarez has been cut.

Alvarez moves into the clinch.
Golovkin has had enough of the clinch but Alvarez keeps him there for the moment.

Golovkin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Golovkin tries to kick Alvarez off but Alvarez keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Alvarez thows a huge punch but Golovkin dodges it nicely.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Golovkin swats away the attempt to clinch by Alvarez.
Alvarez throws a low kick but it's checked well by Golovkin .
Alvarez uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Golovkin .

Alvarez throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Golovkin tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Alvarez is in Golovkin 's guard.

Golovkin manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Golovkin has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Golovkin rushes Alvarez with punches - Alvarez moves straight backwards instead of circling and gets clipped by the second strike... and the third... and the fourth! Oh, Alvarez goes down! Golovkin follows up with more strikes and the ref steps in to end the bout!
