PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Shepherd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Blue Kandle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kandle has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Blue Kandle has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Aaron Shepherd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Blue Kandle!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shepherd pushes Kandle up against the cage in a clinch.

Kandle manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Shepherd controlling from the top position.
Kandle looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Shepherd lands a couple of digs.
Shepherd slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shepherd gets to his feet - Kandle follows without any prompting.

Kandle closes the distance and pushes Shepherd back into the cage.
Kandle tries to break free but Shepherd pushes him back against the cage.
A right hook to the body lands for Shepherd.
Kandle is looking to break free of the clinch but Shepherd has double underhooks.
Kandle is trying to push Shepherd away but Shepherd has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Shepherd creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Kandle's defenses.
Kandle wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Kandle looks winded!
Kandle blocks an elbow strike from Shepherd.

Shepherd's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Kandle managing to block the knees to the body from Shepherd.
Shepherd tries to work over Kandle's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Kandle prevents a body shot from Shepherd.
Kandle is trying to push Shepherd away but Shepherd has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Shepherd on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Shepherd breaks from the clinch.
Kandle connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shepherd moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Kandle tries a head kick but it misses.
As Kandle looks to move away, Shepherd throws a big counter combo but Kandle just gets out of the way.
Shepherd slips a straight right by Kandle.
A jab from Kandle finds it's way through Shepherd's defenses.
Kandle misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Shepherd counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Kandle misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Shepherd.

Kandle has taken the fight to the clinch.
Kandle throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Shepherd blocks it with crossed arms.
Shepherd lands a left hand that snaps the head of Kandle backwards.
Kandle working hard to break the clinch.
Shepherd is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Kandle is defending well for now.

Shepherd escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kandle lands with a good body shot.
Kandle misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Kandle ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kandle throws a lazy uppercut
and Shepherd counters with a one-two to the body.
Shepherd keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Shepherd has closed the distance and engaged Kandle in a clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kandle tries to throw a body punch but Shepherd avoids it by throwing Kandle back against the cage.
Kandle tries to break the clinch but Shepherd is controlling the position.

Shepherd's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Aaron Shepherd will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kandle is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shepherd lands a decent elbow from side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Kandle's face as Shepherd controls the position.
Shepherd has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Shepherd's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Shepherd is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Shepherd is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kandle can do to turn this around?

Shepherd fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Kandle is in a horrible position here. Shepherd smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Shepherd takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Shepherd seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kandle for as long as he can get away with.
Shepherd has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Shepherd is stinking the place up with his stalling.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Kandle gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Shepherd controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kandle takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Shepherd scoring with punches to the head and body.
Shepherd seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Kandle throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Shepherd was covering up waiting for the punch and Kandle finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Kandle throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Shepherd is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kandle really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shepherd. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Shepherd bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kandle's guard.

Shepherd slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Shepherd gets to his feet. Kandle looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Kandle is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Shepherd rather than just go for the knockout.
Shepherd shoots in looking for a takedown but Kandle manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Shepherd's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Kandle rushes Shepherd and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Shepherd escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Shepherd misses with a wild combination.

Kandle throws a leg kick
and Shepherd counters with a one-two to the body.

Kandle gets a double leg takedown into Shepherd's guard.

Kandle is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Shepherd has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Kandle is looking to defend but Shepherd has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Kandle! Shepherd pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Kandle taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:34 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Aaron Shepherd!
