PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Julio Petersen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Lopez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Julio Petersen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Daniel Lopez!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Ackerman and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lopez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Petersen sprawls well initially but Lopez persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Lopez decides to stand and escape the position.

Lopez shoots in and bounces Petersen off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Lopez wants to control from the top but Petersen keeps moving.
Lopez not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lopez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Petersen works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Lopez is stalling in the full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lopez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Lopez gets to his feet. Petersen looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Petersen tries a low kick but Lopez avoids it.
Petersen tries to clinch there but Lopez circles away.
Petersen tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Lopez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Lopez unleashes a big counter combination but Petersen bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Petersen is looking to clinch but Lopez is avoiding it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lopez scoring well with a low kick there.

Lopez drives through with a takedown into Petersen's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Petersen had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lopez defends it easily.
Lopez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Petersen is keeping the position for now.
Petersen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Lopez advances to half guard.
Lopez trying to control the action but Petersen is working from the bottom.
Lopez is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Petersen really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lopez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Petersen does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Lopez passes to side control.
Lopez creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Petersen sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Lopez passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Petersen!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Petersen bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Daniel Lopez dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Lopez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Petersen to the mat! Petersen manages to get full guard.

Petersen manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Lopez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Lopez has Petersen pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Lopez pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Petersen tumbling to the mat - Lopez dives into Petersen's guard.

Lopez advances position into side control!
Lopez is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Petersen's shoulder. That is not cool.

Lopez is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Petersen has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Petersen is trying to improve his position.
Lopez throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Lopez remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Petersen throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Lopez manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Petersen on his heels. He'll look to pass Petersen's guard now, I'm sure.

Petersen pushes Lopez off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Petersen is working an open guard so Lopez takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Petersen throws a head kick that misses.

Lopez dives in and scores a takedown into Petersen's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Julio Petersen will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Petersen went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Petersen tries to clinch there but Lopez circles away.

Lopez fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Petersen to the ground. Lopez is now in Petersen's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lopez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Petersen can't keep his opponent in guard - Lopez advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Lopez seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Petersen trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Lopez manages to pass to mount!
Petersen is squirming around, avoiding Lopez's attempts to control the action.

Let's hope that Lopez has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Petersen suckers Lopez into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Petersen is now in Lopez's guard!
Lopez is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Lopez is trying to keep Petersen in close.

Lopez is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Petersen is aware though and is defending well.
Lopez is looking to stand back up but Petersen counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Lopez.
Petersen is looking to take a break and control but Lopez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Daniel Lopez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lopez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
