Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jan Paul Valens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hannibal Rose (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hannibal Rose has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jan Paul Valens!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hannibal Rose!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Valens darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Rose is looking to improve his position.

Valens is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rose has managed to free his arm - good work.
Valens thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rose's head.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rose wants to control but Valens is keeping busy and won't allow it.

We've been hearing good reports from Valens's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Valens connects with a leg kick. Rose looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Hannibal Rose seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Rose manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
