Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Benjamin Tay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johny Vargas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tay's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, PONPONPON. The crowd seem to be enjoying Vargas's choice of entrance music: Drake - Trophies. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johny Vargas!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vargas lands a nice looking body shot.
Vargas's jab looks to have found its range, popping Tay under the eye.
Tay dodges the punch combination from Vargas.
Tay looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Vargas is fending him off so far but Tay persists. Nope, Vargas circles away and we're back to standing.
Vargas has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Vargas misses with a series of wild punches.
Tay changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Vargas slaps away a takedown attempt from Tay, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Tay throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Vargas throws a counter combo.
Tay takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Tay shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Vargas sprawls well. Vargas wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Tay gets slowly back to his feet.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Benjamin Tay. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vargas misses with a jab, cross combination.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Tay.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Tay is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Vargas knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tay swings around for an armbar but Vargas sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Tay's guard.
Tay seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Vargas is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Vargas is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Tay is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Vargas wants to get up but he can't break Tay's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Vargas working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Tay's head.

Tay looking for a guillotine here but Vargas defends easily.
Vargas pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Tay is keeping the position for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Vargas works over Tay with some ground and pound from guard.


Tay is rocked!

Tay working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Vargas doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Vargas manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Vargas chips away with some ground and pound.
Oh Tay is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Vargas wants to pass the guard but Tay is keeping the position.
Vargas keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Tay's head.
Vargas is working Tay over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Vargas must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Vargas gets to his feet and stands over Tay, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Tay felt that one! Vargas unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Tay from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Johny Vargas! Johny Vargas retains his featherweight title!
An out of breath Johny Vargas thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
