Mamedov comes to the cage accompanied by Shamhan Daldaev - Eto Kavkaz. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mamedov swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Penn walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

It looks like BJ Penn has been cut.
Penn moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Mamedov scores with a decent looking hook.
BJ Penn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Penn takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Penn is rocked!
Mamedov slips under a jab.
Penn is still on wobbly legs! Can Mamedov finish him?
Mamedov moves out of range of the body kick.
Penn seems to have recovered his senses.
Penn throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Mamedov lands with an overhand left.
Mamedov fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Penn misses the shot to the body.
Penn on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Mamedov ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Penn stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Mamedov drops Penn with a huge uppercut! Penn drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Mamedov is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!
