PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chet Calhoun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruce Rexton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Chet Calhoun has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Chet Calhoun seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chet Calhoun!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bruce Rexton!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rexton scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Calhoun shoots in for a takedown but Rexton shows good takedown defense.
Rexton swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Rexton keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Rexton! But no joy.

Calhoun tries to keep at a distance but Rexton has taken the fight into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rexton misses with an elbow over the top.

Rexton turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Rexton manages to end up in side control.

Rexton stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Calhoun on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Rexton with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Rexton tests Calhoun's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Calhoun drives through and clinches with Rexton against the cage.
Calhoun is working for takedown but Rexton is calmly controlling the position for now.

Rexton wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Calhoun gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Rexton regains guard.
Calhoun throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rexton works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Calhoun not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Calhoun has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Calhoun seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Rexton for as long as he can get away with.
Rexton is trying to control the position but Calhoun postures up.

Calhoun's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Calhoun shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Calhoun showed some decent athleticism there.

Calhoun is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rexton defends it well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Calhoun is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Rexton is looking for a sweep. Calhoun is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Rexton lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Calhoun with a poor takedown
and Rexton counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Rexton lands with an uppercut that bounces Calhoun off the cage and back into range.
Rexton slaps away a takedown attempt from Calhoun, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Rexton throws a sloppy head kick and Calhoun moves out of range easily.

Rexton throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Calhoun was covering up waiting for the punch and Rexton finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Rexton seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Rexton has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rexton tries to stand but Calhoun is controlling from the bottom.

Calhoun escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rexton gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Rexton decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rexton's corner calls for a 1-2. Rexton obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bruce Rexton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Rexton throws out a counter right but Calhoun avoids it with no problem.
Rexton connects with a good right hand that stumbles Calhoun. Calhoun circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Calhoun shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rexton defends it nicely.

Bruce Rexton comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Rexton winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
