PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Johny Tucon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Douglas Perry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johny Tucon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Douglas Perry!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, John Kavanagh and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tucon shoots in looking for a takedown but Perry manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Tucon's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Tucon dodges the punch combination from Perry.
Tucon shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Tucon fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johny Tucon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Perry stuffs the takedown attempt from Tucon. Tucon gets slowly back to his feet.
Tucon shoots in for a takedown but Perry shows good takedown defense.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tucon will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Perry lands a really nice looking cross but Tucon seems unphased.

Perry moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Perry gets tackled into the cage by Tucon. Tucon maintains the clinch.
Tucon is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Perry gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Tucon is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Perry is defending well.
Perry gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Tucon.
Perry wants to break the clinch but can't.

Tucon comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Tucon keeps control of Perry as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Tucon seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Tucon wants to stand and escape but Perry is having none of it.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Perry really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tucon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Perry throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Douglas Perry seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Tucon shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Perry pinned against the cage. Perry gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Perry wants to get up but he can't break Tucon's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Perry wants to stand and escape but instead Tucon has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Tucon won't allow Perry to get back to his feet.
Tucon lands a couple of elbows.
Perry is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Perry is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Tucon dives into side control.

Tucon decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Perry tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Tucon was well out of range. Poor timing from Perry.
Tucon fails with the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Douglas Perry dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Perry thuds his right hand into Tucon's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Perry slips a jab and a cross from Tucon.
Perry throws the left hand but Tucon avoids the punch easily.
Perry misses with a wild body shot.
Tucon tries to score a power double leg takedown but Perry sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Tucon somewhat.
As Tucon backs off Perry throws a huge counter combo but Tucon manages to avoid it all.
Tucon moves forwards but Perry connects with a nice, crisp jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sloppy strikes from Perry. Those never looked like landing.

Tucon shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Perry but Perry pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Tucon uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Perry.

Perry smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Tucon closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Tucon goes for a takedown attempt but Perry pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Tucon is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Perry pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Tucon closes the distance and clinches up with Perry, looking for a takedown. Tucon pushes Perry against the cage but Perry circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
As Tucon backs off Perry throws a huge counter combo but Tucon manages to avoid it all.
Perry rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Tucon counters with a three punch combo that has Perry backing up. Perry nods at Tucon to acknowledge the strikes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Perry might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Nice takedown defense from Perry. No joy for Tucon on that attempt.
Perry will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Perry tries to bum rush Tucon with a series of wild strikes but Tucon uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Douglas Perry showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Perry wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Tucon manages to pass to side control.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Perry can do anything to dispel that myth.
Tucon stops Perry from getting back to his feet.
Tucon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Perry keeps working.
Perry looks like he's trying to stand up.

Tucon takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Tucon uses his free foot to push down on Perry's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Perry.
Tucon content just to control the position here.
You get the feeling that Perry really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Tucon scores with a couple of good head shots there.
BOOM! Tucon connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Johny Tucon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Perry wants to try and get back to his feet.
Tucon looking to finish Perry with some ground and pound. This is bad for Perry!


Perry is rocked!

Perry wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Tucon controlling the pace for now.
Tucon working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Perry is still in real trouble! Can Tucon finish him?
Tucon looking to control but Perry is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Perry seems to have recovered his senses.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Perry squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tucon lands a big elbow.
Perry really wants to buck Tucon off and get back to his feet.
Johny Tucon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The referee warns Perry that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Tucon loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Perry scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Tucon land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Tucon stands and salutes the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Johny Tucon!
