PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gunnar Steigelmann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zeus Leonidas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Zeus Leonidas was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steigelmann keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Steigelmann looks to land a body kick but Leonidas moved away.

Steigelmann fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Leonidas looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Gunnar Steigelmann seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Leonidas scores with a hook to the body. Steigelmann takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Steigelmann looks to land a right hand but Leonidas moved out of range.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Leonidas has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Leonidas swings wildly with an uppercut but Steigelmann uses good head movement to avoid it.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Steigelmann just misses with a elbow thrown towards Leonidas's brow.

Leonidas drops down looking for an ankle pick but Steigelmann pulls his leg out and moves away.

It looks like Zeus Leonidas has been cut.
Steigelmann throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Leonidas changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Steigelmann looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Leonidas tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Steigelmann holds on to Leonidas's head and controls the position momentarily.

Leonidas wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Steigelmann, who protects the arm well.

Steigelmann takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Leonidas is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Steigelmann's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Steigelmann's back!

Well, with Leonidas on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Steigelmann is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

Leonidas is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Steigelmann has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Steigelmann rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Leonidas is working for a submission of some sort.
Steigelmann is not content to let Leonidas control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Steigelmann misses with a right hand
and Leonidas counters with a low kick, right behind Steigelmann 's knee.
Leonidas scores with the left hand. Steigelmann knows he should have avoided that one.

and Leonidas counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.


It looks like Gunnar Steigelmann has been cut.
Leonidas throws a one two combo.
Steigelmann throws a wild body kick that Leonidas sees coming a mile off.

A big head kick from Steigelmann and Leonidas is sent sprawling to the canvas!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Steigelmann is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Leonidas is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Steigelmann seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Leonidas working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Steigelmann doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Steigelmann manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Leonidas has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Leonidas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Steigelmann gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Steigelmann is looking to work some ground and pound but Leonidas has wrist control.
Leonidas can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Steigelmann controls the pace.

Steigelmann avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Leonidas has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Steigelmann can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Leonidas is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Leonidas is trying to hold Steigelmann in close to prevent damage but Steigelmann has managed to pass into half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Leonidas thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Steigelmann if he has to take too many more of those.

Steigelmann goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Leonidas swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Leonidas jumps guard but Steigelmann turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Steigelmann creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Leonidas.
Leonidas digs a right hand underneath Steigelmann's ribcage. Steigelmann let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Zeus Leonidas's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:16 of round 4, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Gunnar Steigelmann!

A relieved looking Gunnar Steigelmann thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
