PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Hicks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexandre Tremblay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alexandre Tremblay will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brandon Hicks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alexandre Tremblay!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tremblay feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tremblay wants to control from the top but Hicks keeps moving.
Tremblay tries to free his leg and advance position but Hicks is retaining full guard.
Tremblay must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Hicks bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Tremblay's guard.


Hicks drops back looking for a leg! Tremblay is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Tremblay manages to kick Hicks off! Hicks jumps back into Tremblay's guard.
Hicks is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tremblay is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Tremblay has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hicks can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Tremblay is pulling down on Hicks's head. It's preventing any offense from Hicks, at least for the moment.
Hicks is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Hicks gets caught napping as Tremblay dives in and scores a takedown. Hicks manages to retain guard.

Tremblay wants to stand and escape but instead Hicks has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Tremblay escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hicks gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hicks lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Tremblay utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Hicks content to stall in guard here.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Tremblay is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hicks is aware though and is defending well.

Hicks drops back looking for a leg! Tremblay is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Tremblay manages to kick Hicks off! Hicks jumps back into Tremblay's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Alexandre Tremblay will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Tremblay is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Tremblay throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Hicks escapes and throws Tremblay's legs to the side, diving into side control!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hicks remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Hicks working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Hicks is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Hicks is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Tremblay is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Tremblay should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Hicks is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Tremblay has escaped the position, nice work there.
Tremblay tries to buck Hicks off but Hicks is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hicks controls the position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Tremblay tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Hicks avoids the attempt from Tremblay to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Hicks working for a submission but Tremblay is keeping him at bay.
Brandon Hicks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hicks jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Tremblay manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Tremblay throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Tremblay is looking for a sweep.
Tremblay is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brandon Hicks dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Hicks closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Tremblay wants to get back to his feet but Hicks is dominant here and he's now got Tremblay's back!

Tremblay is trying to break free.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Tremblay wants to get back to his feet.
Tremblay manages to reverse the position and now he's in Hicks's guard. Nice work there by Tremblay.
Tremblay not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Tremblay looking to sit in guard and control but Hicks gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Tremblay has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Hicks stays in close to Tremblay's body and controls the position.
Hicks has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Hicks thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hicks slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Tremblay controls Hicks momentarily but Hicks frees himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Tremblay throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Brandon Hicks is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Tremblay takes the fight into the clinch.

Tremblay drags the fight down to the ground.
Tremblay trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Hicks won't allow Tremblay to get back to his feet.

Hicks is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Hicks keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Tremblay's head.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Brandon Hicks.
I think Hicks has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
