PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dexter Cooke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jan Chibers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Skip Squint and Steve Erwin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chibers swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Chibers tries to land a leg kick but Cooke saw it coming and moves away.

Cooke moves into the clinch successfully.

Chibers pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cooke pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
A leg kick checked by Cooke.
Cooke throwing a counter right hand but Chibers manages to avoid it.
Cooke throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Chibers counters with a thumping low kick.
Cooke looks to land a right hand but Chibers moved out of range.
Chibers connects with an inside leg kick.
Chibers lands a high kick!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chibers plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Chibers throws a head kick but Cooke moves out of range.
Chibers is looking to clinch but Cooke is avoiding it.
Chibers throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Cooke.
Cooke really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Chibers tries to land a leg kick but Cooke saw it coming and moves away.
Cooke looks to land a combination but Chibers avoids it well.

Cooke gets tackled into the cage by Chibers. Chibers maintains the clinch.
Chibers is trying to force a seperation but Cooke has the dominant position.
Cooke lands with a light punch inside.
Chibers trying to stall but Cooke improves his position.

Cooke has clasped his hands together around Chibers's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Cooke is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Chibers is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Chibers pushes Cooke away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Cooke gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Cooke will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Cooke is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Chibers has escaped the position, nice work there.
Chibers avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Cooke.

Chibers is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Cooke asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Cooke is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Chibers is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cooke landing strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Cooke is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Chibers knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Cooke is staying tight to Chibers's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Cooke's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Cooke is trying to get an arm triangle but Chibers is defending well.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cooke thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dexter Cooke will probably get the nod.

Chibers cracks the inside of Cooke's front leg.
Chibers throws a leg kick which misses Cooke's front leg but catches the back leg as Cooke tries to avoid it.

Chibers gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Cooke swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Cooke goes for a takedown attempt but Chibers pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
