PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Khaled Kalil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mario Eikmeyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Kalil might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Black Rob - Whoa!. Mario Eikmeyer has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Khaled Kalil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 34 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mario Eikmeyer!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Alec Ball and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kalil slaps away a takedown attempt from Eikmeyer, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Eikmeyer darts in looking for a takedown but Kalil gets double underhooks and turns Eikmeyer into the cage.
Eikmeyer swats away the attempt to clinch by Kalil.

Kalil clinches up against the cage.
Kalil swings wildly with an uppercut but Eikmeyer uses good head movement to avoid it.
Eikmeyer tries to score a body lock takedown but Kalil shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Khaled Kalil has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mario Eikmeyer.

Kalil breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kalil tries to close the distance and clinch up but Eikmeyer swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kalil leaves Eikmeyer with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Eikmeyer.
It looked like Kalil was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Eikmeyer circles away from the clinch attempt.

Eikmeyer drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Eikmeyer drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Eikmeyer jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Kalil looking to hit a scissor sweep but Eikmeyer is one step ahead there.

Kalil wants to stand up but Eikmeyer is controlling him.
Kalil is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Kalil preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Eikmeyer working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Eikmeyer with a flurry of punches that miss.

Eikmeyer drops back looking for a leg! Kalil is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kalil manages to kick Eikmeyer off! Eikmeyer jumps back into Kalil's guard.
Eikmeyer scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Eikmeyer lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Eikmeyer is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Kalil is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Kalil has escaped and now he's on top!


That's two minutes gone in the round.

Eikmeyer working for submissions but it's allowed Kalil to get to half guard.
Eikmeyer is pressing down on Kalil's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Kalil would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Eikmeyer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kalil doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kalil manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Eikmeyer has a closed guard, preventing Kalil from standing up.
Eikmeyer has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Kalil avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Kalil gets to his feet. Eikmeyer looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Eikmeyer looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kalil is fending him off so far but Eikmeyer persists. Nope, Kalil circles away and we're back to standing.

Eikmeyer scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Eikmeyer wants to pass to mount but Kalil is defending the position.

Kalil manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Eikmeyer keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Kalil manages to break the clinch.

Kalil has closed the distance and engaged Eikmeyer in a clinch.
Kalil lands a nice uppercut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kalil lands with a light punch inside.
Eikmeyer tries for a takedown. No joy.
Eikmeyer wants a takedown but no success here.

Kalil pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Kalil clinches up against the cage.
Kalil lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Kalil manages to break the clinch.

Kalil has closed the distance and engaged Eikmeyer in a clinch.
Kalil lands a left hand.
Eikmeyer dodges an elbow strike from Kalil.
Eikmeyer is looking for a takedown.
Eikmeyer has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Kalil after a bit of a struggle.
Kalil lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Kalil throws an elbow that misses.
Eikmeyer takes a knee right on the jaw!

Kalil lands an uppercut that drops Eikmeyer! Kalil follows him to the canvas looking to finish.


Eikmeyer is rocked!
Kalil in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Eikmeyer looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Kalil turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Khaled Kalil!
In his post fight interview, Khaled Kalil started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
