Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Von Erich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Uriah Faber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Von Erich might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to La Grange. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, David Von Erich!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Uriah Faber!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Peter Branson and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Von Erich connects with a body shot.
Faber shoots for a takedown but Von Erich saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Von Erich forces Faber back against the cage and clinches.

Von Erich breaks the clinch.
Von Erich pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Von Erich throws a nice looking combination but Faber bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Faber uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Von Erich.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Faber.
Von Erich jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Von Erich looks to throw the jab but Faber is out of range.
Von Erich looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Faber fails with the takedown.
David Von Erich has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Uriah Faber.
Left hook, right uppercut from Von Erich.


It looks like Uriah Faber has been cut.
Von Erich slaps away a takedown attempt from Faber, before circling back to the center of the mat.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Von Erich lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Faber circles away quickly and effectively.
Faber is trying hard to land a takedown here. Von Erich sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Von Erich throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Von Erich tries to bum rush Faber with a series of wild strikes but Faber uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Von Erich!
Faber looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Faber shoots in looking for a takedown. Von Erich tries to sprawl out of it but Faber keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Von Erich manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Faber avoids a punch combination nicely.
Von Erich throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Faber.
Sloppy strikes from Von Erich. Those never looked like landing.
Uriah Faber seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Faber slips under a jab.
Faber tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Faber tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Von Erich defends well and Faber ends up having to push Von Erich into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Von Erich lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Von Erich misses the jab.
Von Erich misses with a wild combination.
Faber has a takedown stuffed.
Von Erich connects with a jab.
Faber shoots in but Von Erich avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Faber closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Von Erich is refusing to be controlled, as Faber sits in half guard.
Von Erich tries to roll over but Faber keeps him under control.
Faber is trying to control the action in half guard but Von Erich is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Faber is looking for a kimura here.
Von Erich is trying to stand.
Faber wants to control but Von Erich is keeping him busy.
Von Erich wants to improve his position but Faber is controlling well.
Von Erich is trying to stand back up but Faber is controlling him
Faber uses his free foot to push down on Von Erich's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Von Erich.

Faber looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Von Erich wants to get back to his feet.
Von Erich is controlling an arm, preventing Faber from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Von Erich wants to control but Faber is having none of it.
Von Erich is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Faber controlling the pace for now.
Faber moves to take his opponent's back.
Faber really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Von Erich.

Von Erich is trying to defend against the choke here but Faber has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Faber Tightens the hold and Von Erich taps out furiously! Faber displays superior BJJ to win the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Uriah Faber!
Uriah Faber is the new heavyweight champion!
In his post fight interview, Uriah Faber started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
