PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Kingston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Iancu Calmuschi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Calmuschi has chosen "The Night" by Disturbed as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Daniel Kingston had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Iancu Calmuschi!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Roosa Järviläinen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kingston clinches with his opponent.

Calmuschi has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Calmuschi tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Iancu Calmuschi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Calmuschi ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Kingston connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Calmuschi's hands.
Kingston tries to clinch up but Calmuschi circles away and keeps his distance.

and Kingston counters with a single leg into guard. Calmuschi didn't expect that.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Kingston drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kingston jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Kingston seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Kingston shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Calmuschi pinned against the cage. Calmuschi gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kingston has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Kingston there as he acknowledges the shot.
Kingston tries to clinch but Calmuschi is having none of it.

Kingston shoots in looking for a takedown but Calmuschi manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kingston's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Kingston. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kingston has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Calmuschi uses from the top position.
Calmuschi wants to control from the top but Kingston keeps moving.
Kingston throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Kingston is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Calmuschi defends well.
Kingston has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Calmuschi controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Kingston is striking off his back. Calmuschi thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Daniel Kingston will probably get the nod.

Kingston throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Calmuschi's waist but Calmuschi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kingston off to one side.
Calmuschi ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Calmuschi paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Calmuschi connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Calmuschi sizes up Kingston with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Kingston takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

and Calmuschi connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Kingston tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Calmuschi manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Iancu Calmuschi seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Horrible takedown attempt by Kingston or perhaps it was just good defense by Calmuschi, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Kingston. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Calmuschi is fighting off a takedown attempt but Kingston is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Calmuschi to the mat. Calmuschi regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Calmuschi wants to hit a switch here but Kingston passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Calmuschi there!

Iancu Calmuschi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kingston will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Calmuschi is fighting to break Kingston's control of his arms but Kingston is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Daniel Kingston.
I think Kingston has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
