PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Pate Huntter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kylar Sensei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pate Huntter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kylar Sensei!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Huntter staying out of range there.
Sensei throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Huntter connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Sensei connects with a jab.
Sensei looks to throw the jab but Huntter is out of range.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Huntter, as that shot connected.
Sensei scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Huntter, right into the meat.
Sensei steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Huntter.
Huntter misses the jab.
Sensei tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Huntter was well out of range. Poor timing from Sensei.
Huntter throwing a counter right hand but Sensei manages to avoid it.
Huntter works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Huntter feints and then cracks Sensei's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Sensei down.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sensei scores with the left hand. Huntter knows he should have avoided that one.

Nice defenses there by Sensei.
Sensei uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Huntter.
Sensei will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Huntter shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

and Sensei counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Sensei is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Huntter on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Huntter tries to get out of the position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Huntter wants to stand and escape but Sensei is having none of it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Nice straight punches there by Huntter. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Huntter.
Huntter throws a body punch but Sensei moves out of range.

Huntter throws a low kick, looking for Sensei's leg but Sensei calmly moves out of range.
Sensei drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Huntter defends it well.
Sensei throws a body shot but no joy.
Sensei tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Huntter was well out of range. Poor timing from Sensei.

and Sensei counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Huntter keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Sensei passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Sensei wants to control but Huntter is keeping him busy.

A lull in the action here as Sensei stalls from top position.

Sensei thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Huntter is looking to regain half guard here but Sensei keeps moving and retains side control.
Huntter can't do much from the bottom here.

Kylar Sensei has got the better of the ground game so far.
Huntter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Huntter takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Huntter moves into range and connects with a jab.
Sensei goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Huntter throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Huntter connects with a leg kick. Sensei looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Huntter keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Huntter looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Pate Huntter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kylar Sensei.
Sensei swings widly with a right hand
and Huntter connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Huntter throws a lazy right hand but Sensei sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Sensei throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Huntter throws out a loose jab but Sensei uses good head movement to avoid it.

Sensei shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Huntter as he jumps to the side.
Huntter appears to be looking for a big counter.
Huntter misses the shot to the body.
Sensei drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Huntter defends it well.
Nice takedown defense from Huntter. No joy for Sensei on that attempt.
Huntter looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Huntter takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Sensei scores with a three punch combo!
Pate Huntter is winning the standup battle so far.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sensei doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Sensei throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Pate Huntter will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Huntter changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Huntter throws a body punch but Sensei moves out of range.
Sensei throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sensei.
A big right from Huntter misses.
Sensei shoots for a double leg takedown but Huntter sprawls well. He's pushed Sensei's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Huntter fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Sensei.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Huntter connects with an inside leg kick.
Huntter works Sensei's body with a nice hook.
Sensei thuds his right hand into Huntter's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Huntter throws a shot from downtown. Sensei moves away and avoids it.
Sensei misses with a wild body shot.
Huntter pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
And Sensei tries to counter it with a takedown but Huntter pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Sensei shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sensei showed some decent athleticism there.

Huntter kicks Sensei off and gets back to his feet.
Huntter misses the shot to the body.
Sensei has a takedown stuffed.
Pate Huntter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kylar Sensei.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Huntter lands with a slapping head kick.
Sensei throws a predictable looking body shot
and Huntter counters with a stiff right hand.
Huntter fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Sensei is out of range.
Huntter misses the jab.
Huntter walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Sensei checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Sensei is looking to clinch but Huntter is avoiding it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sensei looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Sensei misses with a straight right.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Huntter leaves Sensei with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Huntter looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Huntter looks to score with a jab to the body but Sensei is just out of range.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Huntter here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Huntter swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Huntter connects with a good right hand that stumbles Sensei. Sensei circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Huntter throws a hook but Sensei blocks it.
Sensei walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Sensei shoots in looking for a takedown but Huntter manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sensei's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Sensei fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Sensei avoids the body shot from Huntter.

and Sensei counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Huntter throws a looping overhand right but Sensei ducks down to avoid it.
Sensei throws a body punch but Huntter moves out of range.
It looked like Huntter wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Sensei misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
The fighters circling - Huntter throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Sensei swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Sensei throws a nice looking combination but Huntter bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Sensei ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Huntter lands a nice hook to Sensei's body. Sensei takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
