PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Renan Ferreira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sterling Contreras (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Sterling Contreras was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Renan Ferreira!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sterling Contreras!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ferreira closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Contreras tries to break free but Ferreira pushes him back against the cage.
Ferreira tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Contreras has Ferreira pushed against the cage.

Ferreira manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Ferreira can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Contreras controls the pace.
Contreras wants to pass the guard but Ferreira is keeping the position.
Ferreira looking to control.
Contreras slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ferreira is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Ferreira is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Contreras stands and steps away. Ferreira gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Contreras looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Contreras closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ferreira to the mat! Ferreira manages to get full guard.
Contreras wants to control from the top but Ferreira keeps moving.

Contreras postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ferreira is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Contreras, into his guard.

Ferreira will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Contreras is pulling down on Ferreira's head. It's preventing any offense from Ferreira, at least for the moment.
Ferreira really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Ferreira shoots in for a double leg but Contreras sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Horrible takedown attempt by Ferreira or perhaps it was just good defense by Contreras, which made it look bad.
Contreras is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Ferreira with a body shot.

Ferreira shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Contreras but Contreras pushes him off and we're back to square one.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

A close round but Sterling Contreras will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Contreras drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Ferreira can't do much from the bottom here.

Contreras stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Ferreira closes this distance looking for a takedown but Contreras circles away.
Contreras tries to clinch up but Ferreira circles away and keeps his distance.
Ferreira changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Contreras tries to avoid it but Ferreira manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Contreras to the ground. Contreras escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ferreira scores with a head kick. Contreras tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Ferreira gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Contreras is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ferreira has escaped the position, nice work there.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Contreras works his foot free and advances to mount.

Contreras goes for an armbar but Ferreira turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Ferreira.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Ferreira rushes Contreras and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Contreras tightens his grip and picks Ferreira up, before dumping him to the ground. Ferreira manages to land in guard.

Sterling Contreras showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Ferreira keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Contreras's efforts to push away.
Contreras has Ferreira pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ferreira manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Ferreira jumps guard but Contreras stands there with Ferreira around his waist. Ferreira gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Contreras is trying to push Ferreira away but Ferreira has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Contreras jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Ferreira is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Ferreira and Contreras has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Contreras is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ferreira is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Let's hope that Contreras has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Sterling Contreras comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Contreras has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
