Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alden Barrera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alden Barrera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nate Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Barrera eats them both and turns towards Diaz to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Barrera showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Diaz.
Barrera looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Diaz thuds a left hand into Barrera's body.

Barrera closes the distance and clinches.
Barrera tries to pull guard but Diaz forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Barrera manages to break the clinch.
Diaz scores with a shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz misses with a wild combination.
Diaz stalks Barrera and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Barrera's face. Barrera staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Alden Barrera has been cut.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Barrera closes the distance and pushes Diaz back into the cage.
Barrera stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Diaz wants to break free but Barrera has control.
Barrera leaning against his opponent.

Barrera has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Diaz uses from the top position.
Diaz wants to control from the top but Barrera keeps moving.
Diaz throws a big elbow that misses.

Barrera wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Diaz trying to control the position from guard on top but Barrera is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diaz tries to stand but Barrera is controlling from the bottom.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Diaz wants to pass the guard but Barrera is keeping the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Some wild striking there from Diaz.
Barrera seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Barrera moves into the clinch.
Diaz is trying to break free.
Diaz missing with knees to the body.

Barrera jumps guard and drags Diaz to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Barrera has control of Diaz's left arm, preventing Diaz from doing any damage.
Barrera wants to sweep but no luck.

Barrera utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Diaz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Barrera swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Barrera might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Barrera is adopting a defensive guard.
Diaz throws an elbow that misses. Barrera uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Diaz's guard. Nice move by Barrera!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Barrera is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Diaz wants to stand and escape but Barrera is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Nate Diaz will probably get the nod.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Diaz moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Diaz scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Barrera closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Barrera is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Diaz scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Barrera manages to mount him!

Diaz bucks Barrera off and manages to get back to his feet!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Barrera closes the distance and pushes Diaz back into the cage.
Diaz stalling in the clinch but Barrera improves position.

Barrera controlling the action here for a moment.
Diaz looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Barrera on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Diaz tries a body shot but Barrera blocks it.

Barrera breaks the clinch.
Diaz swinging wildly here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Diaz looks to score with a jab to the body but Barrera is just out of range.
As Diaz looks to move away, Barrera throws a big counter combo but Diaz just gets out of the way.
Diaz misses with a double jab.
Diaz misses with a series of wild punches.

Barrera pushes Diaz up against the cage in a clinch.
Diaz wants to break the clinch but can't.

Barrera pulls Diaz into guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Barrera holds on and takes a little breather.
Diaz wants to stand and escape but instead Barrera has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Diaz wants to stand and escape but Barrera is having none of it.
Diaz is breathing heavily.
Barrera tries to free his leg and advance position but Diaz is retaining full guard.
Alden Barrera overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Diaz is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Barrera drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Barrera jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Barrera thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Diaz wants to stand but Barrera is controlling the position.
Barrera scoring with some ground and pound.

Barrera is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Diaz is looking to stand back up but Barrera counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Diaz.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Barrera stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Alden Barrera will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Barrera slips a jab and a cross from Diaz.
Barrera is looking to counter with head kicks.
Diaz jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Sloppy strikes from Diaz. Those never looked like landing.
Barrera avoids a punch combination nicely.
Diaz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Barrera.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz looks to land a combination. Barrera sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Barrera ducks right into an uppercut from Diaz.

Barrera is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Diaz doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Barrera.

Barrera is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Diaz is trying to stand up here but Barrera is controlling him well.
Barrera scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Barrera is working for a submission of some sort.

Barrera is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Diaz is just riding it out for now. Barrera eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Diaz is looking to escape.

Barrera looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Barrera is trying to work for a kimura but Diaz is defending well.

Diaz is trying to stand back up but Barrera is controlling him

Barrera decides to return to a standing position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Diaz throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Barrera has closed the distance and engaged Diaz in a clinch.
Diaz has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Barrera.
Barrera stalling in the clinch.
Barrera just leaning against Diaz, taking a breather.
Diaz goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Barrera breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Barrera takes one on the chin but seems OK.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nate Diaz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Diaz has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
