The crowd seem to be enjoying Brooks's choice of entrance music: Cult Of Personailty. Phill Brooks has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Chao Yamakiza's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Chao Yamakiza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Phill Brooks!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Peter Branson and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Yamakiza closes the distance and clinches.

Brooks jumps guard.
Yamakiza controlling from the top position.
Brooks wants to stand and escape but Yamakiza is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brooks is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Brooks is trying to keep Yamakiza in close.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Brooks shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brooks stands and throws Yamakiza's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Yamakiza managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Brooks.

Yamakiza is looking to reverse the position.
Yamakiza regains half guard, as Brooks was trying to land strikes.
Yamakiza keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Brooks not landing any meaningful shots this time.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Brooks has eaten all the pies!

Brooks stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

The fight stays on the outside here - Brooks looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Brooks tries to close the distance and clinch up but Yamakiza swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Yamakiza was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Yamakiza closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Brooks tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Yamakiza smiles and moves away.

Brooks looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Yamakiza!

Brooks decides to stand up, so the ref orders Yamakiza to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Brooks throws a head kick that misses.

Yamakiza has Brooks up against the cage in a clinch.
Brooks jumps guard but Yamakiza turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Brooks stalling against the cage.
Brooks tries to pull guard but Yamakiza holds him up against the cage and eventually Brooks drops back down to his feet.
Chao Yamakiza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phill Brooks.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Yamakiza lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Brooks or not.

Yamakiza breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chao Yamakiza will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Yamakiza displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Brooks.

Brooks wants to clinch but Yamakiza slips to the side
and Yamakiza counters with a nice uppercut.

Brooks is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Yamakiza is keeping busy.
Brooks's coach down at Evolution MMA was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Brooks's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Yamakiza is working Brooks over against the cage.
Brooks tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Yamakiza misses with a hook to the ribs.
Yamakiza blocks an uppercut.
Yamakiza misses with a shot to the kidneys.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Yamakiza.
Brooks tries to break free but Yamakiza pushes him back against the cage.
Yamakiza scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Brooks jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Yamakiza walks away with a smile on his face. Brooks gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Chao Yamakiza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phill Brooks.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Brooks in particular looking to stall.
Phill Brooks has got the better of the ground game so far.

Brooks wants to pass the guard but Yamakiza is defending well.
Yamakiza knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Brooks on the ground.
Brooks throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Brooks thows a huge punch but Yamakiza dodges it nicely.
Brooks passes the guard and advances to mount!
Yamakiza tries to control Brooks's body but Brooks pushes him off. Yamakiza squirms to his side and now Brooks has his back!
