PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Marco Ajax (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Riza Rakija (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ajax comes to the cage accompanied by For Heavy Metal we will die!. Rakija is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Rakija. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marco Ajax!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Riza Rakija!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yukihiro Shimada and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rakija chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Ajax with a poor takedown
and Rakija counters with a nice body shot.
Ajax has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Heavy Metal in the buildup to the fight.
Ajax scores with a push kick.
A low kick from Ajax is predictable there
and Rakija counters with a straight right hand.
A chopping leg kick lands by Ajax.
Ajax keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
And Ajax counters with a quick kick to the body but Rakija blocks it.
Rakija defending well as Ajax loads up on a big left hand.
The fighters circling - Ajax throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Ajax changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rakija tries to avoid it but Ajax manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rakija to the ground. Rakija escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rakija walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Rakija tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ajax was well out of range. Poor timing from Rakija.
Ajax throws a shot from downtown. Rakija moves away and avoids it.
Ajax scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Rakija doesn't seem bothered though.

Rakija is looking for a sweep. Ajax is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Ajax content to control rather than advance.
Rakija is concentrating on defense, preventing Ajax from advancing position.
Ajax is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

and Rakija counters with a stiff right hand.

Ajax closes the distance and clinches.

Rakija manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Rakija misses with a punch to the body.
Ajax tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Ajax lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Ajax can't find room to land a body shot as Rakija controls the action.

A head punch on the inside from Rakija fails to land.
Ajax is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Rakija pulls him back up using the underhooks.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Ajax.

Ajax doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Rakija creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Rakija lands a left hand that snaps the head of Ajax backwards.
Ajax can't find room to land a body shot as Rakija controls the action.
Ajax throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Rakija makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Rakija prevents a body shot from Ajax.
Ajax on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Rakija throws a punch but it's blocked by Ajax.
Ajax misses with some punches.
Ajax tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
A knee to the head by Rakija.
Ajax lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Ajax makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Marco Ajax will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Ajax gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Rakija counters with a straight right hand.
Ajax tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rakija manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Riza Rakija seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Ajax closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Rakija to the mat! Rakija manages to get full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ajax is fighting to break Rakija's control of his arms but Rakija is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Ajax distracts Rakija with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ajax wants to take a breather but Rakija is having none of it.

Ajax working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.


Rakija is rocked!
Ajax looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rakija with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Rakija is defending against the submission attempts here by Ajax.
Ajax looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Rakija seems to have recovered his senses.
Rakija blocking the ground and pound attempt from Ajax.

and Rakija counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Ajax swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Ajax throws the left hand but Rakija avoids the punch easily.
Rakija is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.
Ajax punishes Rakija's body with a nice straight punch.
Rakija has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Ajax shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rakija as he jumps to the side.
Rakija slips a straight right by Ajax.
Rakija flicks out a counter leg kick but Ajax steps away.
Ajax throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Rakija on the side of the head.

It seemed like Rakija was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Ajax with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Rakija to score with a decent uppercut.

and Rakija connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
That kick from Rakija tenderised Ajax's leg. Ajax is trying to keep his angry face on.

Ajax shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Rakija has his hands clasped together around Ajax's back. He's all about the action.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rakija has his hands on Ajax's head, controlling the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Marco Ajax seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rakija uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ajax.
Ajax lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Ajax closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Rakija's guard.
Marco Ajax overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rakija pulls Ajax in close to his closed guard and prevents Ajax from doing any damage or advancing position.

Rakija is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ajax is aware though and is defending well.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ajax, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Marco Ajax rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
