PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kelvin Pouncey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Vaugh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vaugh has chosen Bad Day as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Kelvin Pouncey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael Vaugh!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Patrick Alders and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vaugh uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Pouncey.

Pouncey throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

and Pouncey counters with a lovely shot to the body.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Vaugh has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Vaugh there as he acknowledges the shot.
Pouncey throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Vaugh flicks out a counter leg kick but Pouncey steps away.
Vaugh throws a push kick but Pouncey slaps the foot to one side.
Pouncey seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

and Pouncey decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Vaugh's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vaugh working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pouncey doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pouncey manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Pouncey here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Vaugh looking for a sweep. Not yet Vaugh, not yet.
Pouncey is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Vaugh can do to turn this around?

I really don't envy Pouncey right now.

Vaugh is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Pouncey defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Vaugh swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Pouncey is now in Vaugh's guard. A big mistake from Vaugh there, giving up the dominant position!

Pouncey avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Vaugh.

Vaugh is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pouncey is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Pouncey tries to buck Vaugh off but Vaugh is having none of it.

Vaugh unloads with some shots from mount but Pouncey bucks and avoids them well.
Vaugh avoids the attempt from Pouncey to control.
Vaugh takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Pouncey is trying to escape the mount.
Pouncey holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Vaugh tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Vaugh lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Vaugh looking to ground and pound but Pouncey is blocking nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Vaugh is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Pouncey has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Pouncey!

Vaugh is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Pouncey frees his head nicely. Oh but Vaugh has switched to an armbar! Pouncey is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
