PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gregg Baird (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Blazko Czereczenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gregg Baird has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Gregg Baird!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Blazko Czereczenko!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Ackerman and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Czereczenko looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Czereczenko throws a nice looking combination but Baird bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Czereczenko throws a right and a left that Baird avoids nicely.
Czereczenko throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Baird counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Baird will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Baird scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Czereczenko tries to kick Baird off but Baird keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Baird is nestled in close to Czereczenko, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Czereczenko pushes Baird off looking to stand but Baird dives back in and keeps control.

Baird prevents Czereczenko from standing back up.
Baird working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Baird has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Czereczenko tries to kick Baird off in order to stand up. Baird Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Czereczenko is working to avoid the ground and pound but Baird connects with a decent elbow.
Czereczenko really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Baird. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Baird creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Czereczenko sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Czereczenko tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Czereczenko is trying to stand back up.
Baird controls the action.

Baird is landing with strikes. Czereczenko can't take much more of this.
Czereczenko is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Baird scores with punches to the body.
Baird has Czereczenko flattened out and is raining down punches.
Baird lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Czereczenko hold on?!
I would not like to be Czereczenko right now.

Baird trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Czereczenko doesn't escape.
Baird seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Czereczenko for as long as he can get away with.
Czereczenko trying to get back to his feet but Baird is in full control for now.
Baird scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Czereczenko is looking for a way out.
Baird really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Czereczenko is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Czereczenko is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gregg Baird dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Baird moves out of range of the strikes.
Czereczenko misses with a few strikes there.
Czereczenko misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Baird takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Czereczenko's coach down at Tycoon Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Czereczenko's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Czereczenko connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Baird momentarily.
Baird showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Czereczenko.
No joy there for Czereczenko, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gregg Baird is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Czereczenko dodges the punch combination from Baird.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Baird tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Czereczenko misses with a double jab
and Baird counters with a series of strikes. Czereczenko will be more careful next time no doubt.

Baird closes the distance and pushes Czereczenko back into the cage.

Baird jumps guard.

Baird looking for a guillotine here but Czereczenko defends easily.
Baird is pulling down on Czereczenko's head. It's preventing any offense from Czereczenko, at least for the moment.

Baird is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Czereczenko frees his head nicely. Oh but Baird has switched to an armbar! Czereczenko is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
